Default Steering wheel vibration.

I've got a vibration at the steeirng wheel at around 50 MPH.
I had new tyres fitted last year and had a vibration after that so I assumed they hadn't balanced them correctly and had them rebalanced but it was still the same.
When I went back they noticed one of the front rims was out of shape from hitting a pothole so I had this straightened and it was still the same.
I have now bought a new wheel but the inbalance is still there.
They have now renewed the tyre incase it was that but it is still the same.

So does anyone have any ideas on what it could be?
There dosen't seem to be any play in the steering etc.

The only other thing I can think is to try and find somewhere that can balance the wheels on the car.

I am also thinking about buying another set of cheap wheels perhaps off a mercedes to rule out if it is wheel/tyre related.

I wish our car had a spare wheel for moments like this.

I had an extremely bad vibration between 60-70 mph, and the dealer said it was the $1800 driveshaft. I had had the tires balanced twice, but it was still there. I went ahead and bought new tires anyway, and that nearly fixed it. The old tires had scalloped really bad on the front.

It is still there sometimes around 50 mph, but really only when it is cold. When they balanced them they noticed that one rim seemed a little bit bent, so that is my next step.

You could also have a small sandbag added to the culprit rim(s). Which will be pulled to the out-of-whack spot and fix the vibration.

Just what I have been through.

replaced wheels with new ones...no change...rebalanced rims but there seems to be an issue centering the wheel on the balancer (going to a different shop for that). New tires on order (going back to PS2). hopefully that fixes it otherwise I am looking into tie rod ends or an entire assembly to fix some play in the drivers side front wheel

I am getting the wheels rebalanced tomorrow and the machine that they use the wheel actually bolts on using the holes in the wheel where you would bolt it onto the car so I hope this will be better.
There is no play in anything and I have checked the steeirng damper which seems fine.
I will wait and see if this makes a difference.

Looks as though this could find the problem now I just need to find someone that has the machine close to me.

Have been having the same issue with steering wheel vibration between 50-70 and thought it was my new wheels and tires, now I am starting to think it might not be....

I am going to a custom alignment and balancing shop that deals with this stuff all the time and hopefully I can report back with some good news or a quick fix....

Had my wheels rebalanced today and all four wheels were out of balance the front ones being the worst and the guy stated that it was enough out to cause a bus to vibrate.
One thing the guy did comment on was that they had only balance the wheel on a single plane i.e. they only had weights on the inside edge of the wheel which he dosen't think gives a true balance.
The machine he had used the holes in the wheel that you use to bolt to the car to clamp it to the machine rather than the centre hole which maybe also helped.
Anyway I'm glad I've got it sorted and I'm going to kick up hell with the place that fitted the tyres that cost me a new wheel and a new tyre.
