Rear wheel bearing and special tools?
I thought maybe I had a bad tire but switched them side to side and I still have the same noise in the left rear. Directional tires running backwards are really really quiet!
Anyway I suspect I have a noisey left rear wheel bearing when weight is shifted to it. Nothing dangerous yet, no play or roughness when turning by hand. The bearing can be bought for around $60 Timken. The manual lists two special tools, 9181, 9199 needed to do the job. Anyone own these tools and are they really needed? Anyone done this job before? Do I really need these tools or will a press do the same thing?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. James

James, i google this info, so here it is for what its worth.Rear wheel bearing p/n wkh757skfkit. It comes w the large snap ring and special lock nut. You have to suspend your axle assembly and hit it w/a large hammer to pop bearing apart.Because there isn"t any way to get to snap ring to remove it. First time i used a press, the second time i used a hammer. Then heat housing and freeze bearing to insert, be careful it does not take much heat 2004 coupe . Good LUck Danny

Ok guys, thanks for the replies. Once the cold weather arrives, I will take a stab at it in the garage. For now I am still trying to deduct the issue as tires. Currently I am running my directional tires backwards to see if there is a difference. Yes only in dry weather.
