Depends on what you want to do: the head and flange of the 12 and 14mm are nearly the same (both take a 17mm socket), the flange is a cone or ball so not flat, and the wheels are hub centric so all the lug bolt does is hold the wheel on. Not certain .040" on the shaft radius is going to matter. 12mm is bigger than the 7/16-20 on my Judge which has a Whole Lot more power & weight.

Probably would not want for track day but may work for cruising. Suspect is better than a three bolt French wheel. I may try myself and see what happens.

Key is to fix the offset.

Also found locally is a set of 18x8's from a 2013 Audi A6 8J 18 with 35 offset with 245s on all 4 for a nice square setup. The Audi wheels actually look a lot nicer than the Mercedes and are already skinned with Continental Pro Contact. If the clearance is there it would make a nice setup for everyday cruising. I could use the factory rims for autocross.

thinking, thinking, thinking...

Default Air leaking when time to replace

I notice when it's time to replace tires, they leak air. I'm not savvy in knowledge of tires, rims etcetera. Only know basics. Had three tires leaking within a one week time frame. Front is Falken Ziex ze329 225/40zr 18 92w and Back is Kumho esta 4x 255/35 Dr 19 96w. My Rims are aluminum. I seem to crack the rims. Should I get heavier metal rim? Is there way to avoid getting leaks? Or---- Theres no way to avoid leaks. I was actually preparing to purchase new tires & boom-- Too late, already started leaking & got another cracked rim on my rear. Lol, I'm a Rim Cracker. 3 rims cracked. . Replaced all. But now i have just one cracked Rim. What tires & size would you recommend? Thanks Carol Pie Banks

that's alot of cracked rims
do you have alot of pot holes, or just enough?
rough r.r tracks?
Did you replace all the wheels or just the ones that has cracked?
Is it just original oem wheels that have cracked or any of your new wheels?
there are stronger wheels, like rotary forged, but if you are on rough roads or have some big holes and or rough railroad rossings, if you are thinking about new wheels, might think about a smaller wheel with a equally sized tire, and will have a taller sidewall, and alittle more room / cushion for the wheel.

Default Leaking tires & cracked rims

Hi Speedy 4x4. Yes, pot holes, railroad tracks. I live in the city and city streets are terrible in a lot of areas. I replace all four tires at least one year ago or so. Rims cracked at different times. Time to buy new tires now. I also want to find good sturdy rims. The rims I have now are aluminum which came with the Crossfire except the two new rims purchased which are aluminum, too. I want to buy 4 new tires & 4 new rims. Beginming with front first. Thank you for responding.

first thing is to think about buying a set of 17 " rims and then getting a tire with a little more height, you want a tire with the middle # 45 example 215/45-18 is 25.6" tall this is good for the front and 255/45-18 is 27" tall or 245/45-19 is 27.7 tall see the chart below

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ighlight=tires

in the chart . tire size the crossfire has 25.5 tall on the front and the tallest you can go is 25.7,,the rear factory is 26" tall you can go 27.7"
first in the chart is tire size,--------------second is width of the tire,,,,,,,,,,,third is the (SH)
distance from the road to the rim (the more(higher the number) the more rubber you have between pot hole and rim) = less broken rims ,,,the last number is the hight of the tire (tall),, there are 5 pictures ,#1 shows what the crossfire came with and also shows a 17" tire that would be the best for the rear 245/50-17 I am not sure if you could find a mercedes rim in 17" to fit the front. ,mercedes wheels would be your best way to go,, after market cost lots, and you would need new lugs, making sure the rear lugs aren't too long as they will hit your em brake line. jim

All depends on where you getting the wheels.
alot of cheap aftermarket wheels and there are a couple members running steel wheels, but you would know it by looking at them can get for around 110 apiece I believe. The steel is normally more forgiving and can flex, and depends on what the person buying wants some looks also.
lug are not a big deal they are cheap.

and also have to watch back spacing, just because it is a mercedes wheel, does not mean it will fit.
and with our stagger, we have different back spacing on front and rear.

I really like my wheels, but I doubt she wants ad wide as I got, can tell a difference in the tread.

up date for using 18" rims.

first we have on the crossfire stock size, rims need to be rear 8.5 to 9.5 wide front 7.5 to 8

225/40-18 on the front, they are 8.9" side wall 3.6" rim to ground and 25.1" tall 30 offset
255/35-19 on the rear , they are 10." side wall 3.5" rim to ground and 26" tall 20 offset
( u may need 15 to 20mm spacer for the rear)

235/40-18 they are 9.3 wide, 3.7 to ground and 25.4 tall ( u may need 15 to 20mm spacer for the rear)
245/40-18 they are 9.6 wide, 3.9 to ground and 25.7 tall these may also work just check the rub on the front
( u may need 15 to 20mm spacer for the rear)

Nice chart. Just be aware that for the ABS to work properly, the computer expects a 25.1" front and a 26" rear. This ratio must be kept within 3% or the computer may get antsy.

ps IMNSHO unless you are racing (in which case you want a low UTQG) there is no reason for stagger other than appearance.

Would a 305/25-20 work as well for the rear? Has anyone ran a similar setup?

Thnk you AMX1397, I am thinking back spacing needs to be in the +20 - +25 range. Is there a way to determine the sweet spot?

What width wheels are you going to use?

I ha e 19x10.5 with a 20 offset on my 285/35r19
With factory arms when I shoved the tire into the wheel well checking I had slight rubbing.
After the adjustable camber arms and kicked the tire out I rolled the fenders.

Here is my thread on mine.

If the 305/25-20 will actually fit under the rear and I can find a wheel, 20x11 is what I would like to pair it with.

As much as I appreciate alot of the above information, some have already warned certain setups should probably be avoided. With that being said, here are recommended fitments per trim(motor).

My understanding is that for the front you can go up to 25.4" diameter and it is best that the rear be within 4% to avoid upsetting the ABS. I suspect but do not know a 16" SLK320 wheel will fit.

Default Re: tire sizes to fit your car

the height and width of the tire is what matters, stay close to the 26"tall ,,if the tire is wider then reduce the offset to 30 so the wheel goes into the wheel well so it does not rub., and you don't hit the rotors.
years ago i ran a drag radial 315/35-17 = 12.4 wide,, 4.3 rim to ground and 25.7 tall they spun too much ,, any thing smaller than 26" tall will spin,,, anything taller than 285/35-19 ,, 26.9 will rub in fact this tire will rub in fast corners and at high speed
26.6 is the tallest tire i would use stock rim that would be 275/35-19
\stock 255/35-19 you can use with stock rims
265/35-19 or 275/35-19
(255/30-20 recommended by factory),,205/25-20 ( 12" wide)
265/30-20
and on the front 225/30-20,,,225/35-19 235/35-19

AND HISTORY REPEATS IT'S SELF I POSTED THIS IN 2011

Having a spare set of wheels and having lost much of my gluteus maximus am thinking 235/40r18s all around might be a softer idea. Near $100 less expensive also. Is 25.4" diameter and a 235/45r18 is 26.4". Of course feeling like the seat bottom foam is thoroughly ex does not help. Comments ?
