Default Change brakes

Hi,

I am going to change the brakes on my SRT-6 (35K miles)

1 - Do you think I should change the rotors too or its too early ?
2 - There is a lot of brakes available in the market, I can't pick one for the SRT6. Which one have you used on yours ?

I probably gonna buy a red caliper cover too

Thanks guys, I appreciate

I bought my caliper covers here:

MGP Caliper Covers

NOTE: They are available engraved "SRT6" and in a wide choice of color options BUT it is almost impossible to find the options on their website to place the order the way you want it. Suggest you phone them to place your order. The last set I bought for the rescue roadster were Satin Finish Black powder coated with silver SRT6 engraving.

If your stopping is smooth (no brake chatter which would indicate warped rotors) then you don't NEED to change the rotors. I didn't really need to change my rotors either but I went ahead and did it to get that high performance "look" as well as a bit of upgraded stopping power. The decision is up to you . . .

Ok so I think the rotors are still in good shape

I will go and change the pads only. Probably buying some Disc Italia Ceramic

JMO, but at 35k miles I'd probably have the rotors cleaned up (turned) and be like new again. It's cheap insurance for the best performance, and best life out of your new pads.

Ok weird. I have been to the garage to check the brakes and they find out that the brakes are still 80% new front and rear. And that replacing them is not necessary

Does it sounds right to you for a 35K ?

I replaced the OEM pads at 42,000 purely to get rid of the dust, they were at about 30% wear.
I went with EBC RedStuff.

I have 84k on my original pads. I do need to change them soon but they do look like I could get about 90k out of them. The rotors are still in great shape other than a little lip on the outside edge of the rotor from the pad wear.

How many miles have you put on the car, 84k?
You had it new and I guess it is garaged as rust eats away at the rotors if they are outside.

65,000 It had 19,000 when I bought it. It's only been garaged the last 2 years out of the 7 years I've owned it.

the brakes on these cars are great. I changed out pads, fluid, and lines for my own performance requirements. I changed rotors on the roadster just for looks....drilled rotors, but the stock rotors are huge and will last a long time. I still run the stock rotors on the coupe with ceramic pads, high performance fluid, and metal lines. If you are just going to drive it, and not put it thru it paces, stock is fine.

You stated that you were going to do the brakes. We can just assume that you either found out that you needed to, or you wanted performance or pads that created less dust, etc. I agree about our having good brakes to begin with. Sounds like you can go quite a while longer before needing brakes. But a good idea to completely flush the brake fluid every 2 or 3 years. It could be that yours has never been changed; how old is your car now? It's especially important to change and keep the moisture out when you have an expensive ABS system like we do. Personally, I check brakes and do a fluid flush every spring with the good stuff.

Yes I was going to do a check on the brakes and was thinking that it was time to change them, but finally it was not the case.

But I will definitely change the brakes fluid, its a 2005 SRT-6

How do you like the red stuff on the crossy? EBC seems to be in the minority here but for Jag they were the go to brand. I use green stuff and upgraded rotors on my daily drivers. Love the more stopping power with less effort on the green stuff.

I have had the Red Stuff pads on the XF for 4 years now, not any wear to speak of.
However, mine is not a daily driver, but I have put 20K on her in 4 years, including 3 TOTD visits.
I have the Green Stuff pads on my 2002 Concorde Limited, no problems there either and a bunch more miles.

Do the reds have to heat up before they fully grip? How dusty are they? How hot did they get at TOTD after a spirited run?

I haven't noticed any difference between cold and hot.
They are very low dust, but there is some.
I never experienced any fade at TOTD, but I am not an aggressive driver.
