Good Trip
Too chicken to take the XF (no spare), took the 13 Escape Titanium, 2.0 L Turbo, 6 spd auto, 4x4. Vehicle weighs 3,800 lbs. 2,900 miles on trip.....computer claimed 26.6 mpg ave. ....my measure was 26.1 mpg. Not bad .....many mountains.....& 80 mph+ on I-70. EPA sticker is 28 highway....but I'm guessing they have pure gas & don't go over 65 mph. With pure gas & a stretch of 2 lane 65 mph highway....it would read 31-32 mpg.
KC to Yellowstone.....over to Devil's Tower.....Denver Botanical Gardens....KC
Hey, I bought an $88 Coleman Cooler that plugs into the 12v outlet or house current.....Escape has a 110 V outlet...+ I would bring it into motel rooms over night.....would be down to about 40F most of the time. First night I had it I brought it into our house with only 6 bottles of Coke in it....woke up next morning & temp inside was 27F.......
Some cars 12 v outlets are powered even if car off......if you left it plugged in all night it might drain your battery.....I always kept it plugged into the Escape's 110 V.....which only works when the engine is running.

Well, a few years ago Fred ran over a quarter inch wide metal hollow straw like thing at 80+ MPH....I got it stopped before there was any wheel damage.....but when I pulled it out & hooked up the fixaflat stuff to the compressor......it wouldn't inflate.....stuck my head under the car & discovered an 8-10 inch x 2 inch wide gash that the wheel made in the tire when it rapidly deflated. That was a good 6 hour disaster...till I got a ride home and took one of the 19s off Wilma & go back to Fred.
The chances are on your side. In over 34 years of driving, I have had one such incident. In 1996 I hit a peice of metal in the road that flew up from the front tire and sliced a four inch gash in a rear tire.
EVERY other tire problem I've had was a slow leak, usually a nail or sometihng in the tire. I once pulled out a little triangle peice of sheet metal from the rear tire on the Crossfire. I fixed that like I do all my punctures: With a tire repair kit tool, a tube of cement, and a tire "worm".
I've fixed (on my pickup) some puncture wounds without even taking the tire off the truck. I know it'll be a mess when it happens, but I'm not leaving my little car behind because of it! Hell, motorcycles go all over without an easily-used spare.

Well, I will have FRIENDS with me - and besides, the Dragon is less than 200 miles from home, for me!
(Now there is some braggin!)
Well I mainly just wanted to share the trip info. The best thing we stumbled upon was a WY rest stop in the Bighorn National Forest....at about the 9000 ft level .....you stop to take a leak & realize the sign says Shell Falls.....they have built walkways/ railings ......follow the path & .....WOW....mini grand canyon & beautiful waterfall. I was surprised that in August (dry season) that high up.....there was still that much water flowing. I also thought some would be interested in the performance of the 2 L Turbo.......that's becoming a very common engine option from lots of manufacturers.
