Question regarding alarm not sounding
Hi all, sorry if this has been solved somewhere, but I have spent a while searching and not found anything.
When I lock my (SE Roadster) car, the indicators (blinkers?) flash, the car locks and the red light on the tow away alarm switch starts to flash. However, if I reach inside and open the door (with window down or top open) no alarm sounds.
Any ideas where I should start to fault find? I am guessing that maybe the siren is disconnected? Where is the siren located on the Crossfire?
Thanks.

Also; the siren has it's own battery power supply, which depletes over time. Replaced siren & works again. Much info here on this subject.
I am open to correction on this subject as I am not positive on the details.
I should look at my UK SRT6 Owners Manual - (multi language) I guess but I cannot be bothered right now.
I have often thought of selling this manual package, any offers?
It comes in the Chrysler wallet with the Navigation/Radio Manual (multi language), Warranty Booklet, Sound System Operating Instructions and a UK Dealer Directory but it's no use now I bet.
It is in brand new condition. Photos on request.
I may put it on the for sale forum or eBay.

Thanks for the offer and input 180, however my Crossfire is the US model.
I haven't had chance to get to the siren yet (I believe you have to remove the wipers, then the screws to remove the plastic panel?).
I check the other things I could think of, but I really need to check the siren.
When I lock the car and open the door, I can here a relay clicking, and the lights (front and rear) flash, but no sound. I am guessing that the logical option is the siren, but if you have any better ideas to check first I am all ears.
Thanks again.

Most likely the batteries in the alarm have leaked and corroded the circuit board.
You have to saw the siren module apart to determine this.
Best bet is to just replace the siren module.

As memory serves me, (not as good as it used to), had similar symptom with original siren, it made some odd noise. Think I used the panic button to try to set it off(?) Lots of info here on replacement, wiper arms can be stubborn. Bought part online, dealer in Texas. Take your time, not too difficult.
Did you find out what the problem was?
I have the same issue. When I "trigger" my alarm (by reaching into a locked car like you said or holding down the panic button on my remote) the lights start flashing but no siren is heard. I believe this is either due to the batteries on my alarm or the alarm/siren module itself. Either way, I will have to look into that at some point but I remember reading a long time ago about batteries leaking onto the module being a fairly common problem. I think most people ultimately had to replace the whole module!
Let me know what you found out. I will look into it, too once I have more time!
Thanks!

I still haven't had chance to look into it. I am on vacation this week, and hope to find the time, but my better half also has a "task list" that I am trying to work my way through
I think I am going to have to order the replacement siren from the US, as I can't find it here in the EU, and I am not sure that the EU model is the same.
I will update as soon as I get chance.

Have you looked at the part numbers? I am sure they are the same.
One replacement siren (CLICK for a picture of it) will beep when you lock or unlock the doors and the OEM siren does not.
These parts are made in Europe by Bosch so they should be readily available as they are used on many Mercedes cars.
I think you are confusing the issue and confusing yourself at the same time.
Why ask for help if you fly of on a tangent?

I'm sorry if my actions offend your logic of fault finding 180, it is not my intention
I said I do not know if the part is the same, as it is the total truth, I do not know (by this I don't mean that it isn't, only that I don't know!).
I did check the part number, and after various pages of google results, the only parts with that specific number that I could find were in the US and listed for Chrysler and for Dodge.
I did also research the R170 alarm module, and there are 6 different ones that I can find, none of which coincide with the specific Chrysler part num.
I also checked 4 online suppliers that stock Crossfire parts in Europe, none of which have the Alarm module. Actually, I lie, I found one place that had a record of the part number, but the whole page was in Russian (yes, I could do a Googleation, but at that point I would rather just order from the US).
I am not sure what "fly off on a Tangent means", but according to google it means "suddenly start talking or thinking about a completely new subject", which I am sure that... oooh, cookies!!

I once had a MB module from Ebay ( had the star emblem in the plastic horn ), but it too suffered from a dead battery after about a year.
There ARE MB compatible modules, problem is finding one that still has life left in it, and this would include any off the shelf modules with the proper Crossfire part number.
I ended up with a module from a junk yard that hadn't corroded the board, and replaced the batteries in it.

I find it hard to believe that a Bosch siren with the correct part number is not available in Europe.
Sorry, by "look into it", I meant actually dismantling the car to get to the siren.
I'm sure that there are equivalent Bosch parts, I guess it is a case of investigating more to find the relevant European part number.

Look for the part number that you have on the car or get the one I list above and get the beep when locking or unlocking the car.
Do not buy the part using the Chrysler number unless you want to pay nearly double for the same part.
Thanks again all.
@180, I checked the part number that you used, and I can find that one here (listed as SLK part). Thank you kindly.
Next step is to find time to get to the siren.

I forgot to update and say that I found time last week to finally get to the siren, and as you all said, the board is fried. I will order a replacement and hopefully get chance to mount it soon. Thanks.
