Default New FOB Pricing and Insurance Coverage

As we all have found the price of a new or replacement key FOB is astronomical therefor has anyone asked their insurance company to pay for the replacement? They are well over the typical deductible and if lost it might be covered.

Anybody try a claim? Anybody ask their Insurance Co if they are covered either on the car insurance itself or even on home owners?

If lost in a fire or flood, I'd think it would be covered. Other than that, "I lost something" is not a reasonable insurance claim in my opinion.

And before someone brings it up:
As to "it quit working", how could that be an insurance claim? If my fuel pump or ECM quits, is THAT an insurance claim?

You losing your key falls under your own negligence and would be denied. Your key stop working falls under typical wear maintenance and also would be denied. The general rule of thumb is if you can't afford to maintain the car it is time to get rid of it.

Not how I'd say it, but that is just about my attitude as well.

In the ten years I've owned my three Crossfires, I have bought a set of $800-900 tires at LEAST once every two years.
I just dropped over $600 on a new top.

PERHAPS, one day, I will need a SKREEM (I have two keys) which will cost $700. What is the big deal? Why is $700 for a SKREEM a big deal, but $800 for tires every two years not a big deal?

I don't think people THINK, they FEEL.

I hear what you guys are saying but what is insurance FOR? A loss. Yes, the insurance company defines what parameters they will pay for a "loss" and all I am saying is if a FOB get's lost and I cannot find it does your policy cover the replacement cost? Has anyone asked their agent?

If I lose my cell phone I'm covered. If I lose a wedding ring I'm covered. Why not a FOB?
