Alright Miata, I went ahead with the Kenwood 955: Kenwood KDC-BT955HD CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

This sucker has everything I could want, and 4volt preouts. Now my question is, do I still use the speaker wires to the scosche adapter to the new head unit? In that order? Keep in mind, I've never really messed with audio stuff before in cars, this is a first lol. Btw I already have the unit itself in my hands.

Since you will get the RCA connector "free".. and it's not a major issue to change.. I'd run it and see if your good with the volume levels.. a few on here "swear" to the quality being better.. haven't tried it myself.

I don't have it handy or I'd link you up.. but find the pin locations threads and get a little familiar with them. There is one showing the back of the stereo and what is going where. Most likely will just be a swap yellow and orange and add the blue "remote turn on".. easy peasy..

I see the rca input sockets on the back of the new unit but you're saying there's rca cables behind the old unit that just be plugged in?

No.. the crutchfield adapter will have rca male plugs for the back of the new stereo..and will plug into the OEM plug that "is" attached to the stereo right now.. Jack into the back of the stereo.. swap red and yellow wire (connect new stereo red wire to adapter yellow.. and stereo yellow wire to adapter red) .. Have that adapter at the house from wife's install.. will get a pic up later tonight for you..

The pic works, thanks for doing that buddy. I also failed to mention I got the unit from best buy not crutchfield. I got my buddy to discount it to 127 bucks so I couldn't pass that up! Where would I be able to buy that adapter, because I'm not against spending a couple bucks to get it and try it like you suggested my good sir.

Metra 40-EU10 Antenna Adapter
Metra 86-9001 Factory Radio Removal Tools

Haven't got the part number on this yet.. the above one is speaker lead connections..

Rummaged around the net for it just now too, and came up with this:
Model: 70-1786 Metra

That's the one apparently that crutchfield ships as well, so now I just gotta find this thing in a store around here somewhere. I went out and got both the male and female antenna adapters just in case, the removal tools, and regular speaker wire adapter for good measure. Now just to hunt down the RCA adapter and see if that works better like you suggested.

I wouldn't worry about finding the other (RCA Plugs).. unless you just want to see for yourself if there is a difference.. I'm speaker lead wired in both cars and plenty happy with it.. Just thought it was a Crutchfield order and that is what they send..

If I can't find them easily I'll just wire the new unit directly with the harness. Though I'm curious about the quality difference hahah
