Wiring Harness needed to change Stereo?
Pulled into the local stereo shop to have them install an Alpine XM ready CD player in my Crossfire. They told me they need to change the wiring harness because of the Infinity system, but called around and none are made for the Crossfire yet. Hence, I drove away with no new stereo.
Anyone know of one a wiring harness that works? Other suggestions? I don't want to use the modulator that connects to our existing stereos-have heard that and didn't like the sound compared to my Stealth that had an XM Head. Just want to change the whole stereo head out to maintain digital sound quality of the XM.
Thanks,
Ruzo

I recently had an Eclipse Sirius head unit installed in my xfire. I went to a cartoys and they did everything. I believe he said they used the adapter for a VW. It works great and sounds great!
The VW adapter works fine...the only issue is that the RED wire on your new stereo needs to be attached to the YELLOW wire on the adapter and the YELLOW wire on your new stereo needs to be attached to the RED wire on your adapter. The VW wiring harness plugs in perfectly to our stock radio wiring harness but the constant (YELLOW) wire is in the wrong place. If you hook it up color to color every thing will work but your memory on the new stereo ( Radio settings and Clock). Switching the wires around fixes the problem. Also you may need a VW amplified antenna adaptor as well...no modifications needed! Any stereo shop should have these 2 parts in stock!!! Hope this helps.
the wiring harness model is Scosche VW01, and the antenna adapter needed is a Metra 40-EU10. don't forget to use the PRE-OUTS of your new head unit, not the speaker outputs.

that's correct; the RCA connectors of the new head unit need to be connected to the "front speaker" wires (left and right) of the Scosche adapter. the scosche adapter does NOT have RCAs on it though, it just has bare wire ends. you'll need to splice a stereo RCA cable (2 connectors, white and red) to the scosche to make the connection.
Around 6 months ago when I changed out my head unit, there was a post here that had a diagram on the wiring. I followed that and ended up only spending 5 minutes inside the car working. The only problem I encountered was the remote turn on wire (blue) had to be hooked up to the blue with black stripe to get the external infinity amp to turn on...just a heads up in case anyone experiences the same problem.

I wired the cars front speaker wires to the head units front pre outs- turned all the way up and the sound was very low. I then tried running the cars wires to the head unit front speaker wires and it has plenty of volume.
The question is... Will i fry or damage the factory amp by supplying it with the head units amplified speaker wires?
I have done lots of stereos but never a car with a "factory amp".
Thanks for any insight.

PS Using the pre-outs is the correct and safest way... but screw it if my speakers blow I'll put better ones in!
Good luck.
Ok it has been two weeks since i hooked up my aftermarket head unit. I hooked the head units amplified wirers to the factory amp and have not had any problems.
Seems like a solution, I spoke with crutchfield and was told the factory radio used the amp in the head unit and then sent it to the amp, no pre-out.
Just wanted to pass the info.

I just had the Alpine 9820XM installed but the subwoofer speakers behind the seats are not working. Any suggestions before I bring it back so I appear smarter than the installer although I question his brilliance since they don't work.
Sorry. I forgot the sound is cutting off every few seconds on only XM. Is this an antenna issue? He put it on the dash. Is there a better place? Is a glass mount better since it is higher up?
