Parking Manual Transmission
I just wanted to see who does what when parking their 6 speed. According to our manuals, page 121, the car should be left in reverse. "NOTE: The parking brake should be engaged and the gear selector placed in REVERSE before leaving the vehicle, especially on an incline." I have always used reverse and was wondering if anyone else does.
On a similar note I was looking at my uncle's '55 Chrysler New Yorker and noticed there was no "Park". All the car had was a reverse, neutral, and drive. The owner's manual stated that If the car were hit while in "park" it could damage the transmission. Therefore there is no park. Park the car in neutral and set the parking brake.
Crazy engineers always changing their minds and setting new rules.

when i had a manual i used to leave it in neutral. i knew a few people that would put it in first, but i was afraid if the car was hit it could screw something up. i've never heard of putting it in reverse. i wonder the different reasons between first and reverse. when my crossfire comes in i plan on leaving it in neutral unless somebody convinces me otherwise.
ok want to be really **** try this, all of you even autosticks.
stop, while pressing the foot brake place car in neutral, and set parking brake, now remove foot from pedal, car may settle on brakes and move slightly. place shifter in park or first or reverse. done.
this will reduce any stress on transmission gears and transfer it to your brakes. its raining today.

You set the parking brake, leave the car running in neutral and call 818-555-1212 and leave a message with the address where it's parked.
I'll come right on over to make sure its secure and you haven't damaged it.

Trivia...
In 1970 dodge, chrysler and plymouth products with 4-speeds required you to put the car in reverse to remove the key...
In 1971 they did away with it and many 70 cars had the linkage removed so it was no longer necessary.
Just interesting info.
