Default 20 inch wheels on the xfire?

I want to put 20x8.5 and 20x9.5 wheels on my '04 crossfire. Will I run into issues and if so, which ones. Any additional mods I will have to do?

No problem with putting on 20's except make sure the Wheels you want to put on will fill the wheel well nicely or you will run into issues with appearance of how the look on the vehicle. I had this problem but after putting on my spacers, the problem was corrected. The better thing to do would be to buy wheels that will fit correctly so you don't have to use spacers (imo). I have some new pics of my ride but I have yet to put them out. Maybe this weekend sometime.

I have 19 & 20's + Eibach kit. I still need spacers though. Check out my gallery if you wish.

With the 20s there are no steering clearance problems on tight curves? It looks real tight in the front. What tires are you running?

I plan to use 225/30/ZR20 and 255/30/ZR20. This is the set that match the set of wheels I am interested in for a crossfire.

...More general info: You can go as wide as a 275/35/20 in the rear and up to 10 inch wide!...i used a 265/35/20 (see below) in the rear cause of tire choices and availability of my BFG kdw tires. (Bad a$$ tires).

CrucialCrossfire,

For those of us who actually put our vehicles on the track and/or generally drive them hard, is there any issue with the outer part of the rear or front tires rubbing the inside edge of the fender? Looks REALLY close to me.

Taking a hard turn and hitting a bump or simple body roll may push that tire right into the fender... not good at all.

General comment about putting 20" wheels on this vehicle. The 18/19 setup is already a nightmare for some when it comes to bent rims from potholes, etc.

When your sidewall becomes too short, you will be almost directly transmitting vibration and impact to the rim.

Other than those points, I do really like the look of the 20" rims, but they seem just a bit more than necessary.
(My opinion, not to be taken if you don't want it).

G -- your BBS wheels are spectacular. Thanks for the picture. I visited the BBS web site several times over the past two years but could never configure any of their wheels for the Crossfire. Yours definitely look great, though, and BBS wheels also perform great, too. Well done.

First I want to say your car looks beautiful! Now if I'm not being too nosy, about how much did it cost to make those changes. I would guess it's well out of my reach, but it would be interesting to know.

MMZ,

No offense taken...but i have to admit you are correct that my setup is NOT for the Hard driver or a Track potential Crossfire. Yes, on Hard turns @ higher speeds with a slight bump in the road (or body roll) it does rub a little in the outside of the front fender well due to the 20 inch rim in the front and the H&R cup kit (xtreme drop)... And Yes with the tire sidewalls only being a 30 series front and back you do "feel" the road...but some small sacrifices had to be made to have the "full" look. You see here in Miami the "BIG" look is "IN" and to kind of fit in or not sway from the "Norm" (down here) it is almost a Necessity to go to the max you can fit under the wheel well...Especially if planning on cruising South Beach. When driving I Must be Always be conscious of the road ahead due to the Big rims and such small side wall height! I know for Most that my set up is a "bit" much to handle for the average person or conservative type person but as my theme or motto states on the last line of my signature and on my driver window; that i try not be the like the "average Joe"...

and besides if i ever did damaged a wheel due to a pothole or anything like it i could easily and cheaply replace it due to the fact that i sell wheels for a living.
- even though - Almost a year and counting...No damaged yet to my wheels...knock on wood!!!

Please do not take any comment i made in a bad or negative way...just understand that in different Cities and regions of the U.S. that ways of life are different...that is what makes the USA a GREAT place to live due to its freedom and diversity!!!

---> just my .02 cents!

Hello there, I'm new to the forum and was wondering whether you could kindly help in the same issue. I'm planing to swap the stock with 9x20 MMR VP3 all round 20 set. However, mock fitting the rim today in the front end, it seemed quite tight. Do you think it would normally fit with 225/30/20? Many thanks!

I believe folks have stated that the overall diameter of the wheel + tire can't be over 26 inches in the front & 27 inches in the rear otherwise there will be rubbing issues on the Crossfire. Check out this post by amx1397 on wheel & tire combinations that will work on the Crossfire: CLICK

Thank you for the tips, very kind of you. Well, I'm in Europe and you know we are inclined to cm rather than inches, on the one hand. On the other, I shor some mock fitting pics for the rim without a tire and would be more than glad to have your say in them. I do appreciate it again

I would suggest you take a look at this website to get a comparison of the overall fitment of the new wheels & tires vs. the Crossfire OEM setup: CLICK

Below is the OEM wheel & tire setup on the Crossfire.

Thank you, I definitely agree and already have a full idea on the specs you kindly shared. However, my only concern is that the fronts are 9 wide. Added to that, I ordered 25 offsets yet the seller sent me 15s, unfortunately. The question now is if I would go for 225/30/20 with the fronts, wouldn't there be any rubbing surprises and wouldn't the tire flat a bit because of the width of the rim, knowing tha there would be normally an extra 6 mm in the diameter of the new setting in comparison to the stock one. 😊

The new setup on the fronts show quite a bit of tire sticking out compared to OEM setup. I don't think I would use that but others more familiar with this hopefully will chime in.

A spacer of 10-15 mm would orient the install of the new wheel & tire much better. OOPS!! New setup already has a positive offset less than the Factory Setup. I wouldn't use these wheels! Wheels & Tires stick out of the wheel well way too much for me! Others with more experience hopefully will provide input

So why did the vendor send a wheel that wasn't per your spec of 25 mm offset?
