Wind noise DIY?
I know there is a TSB for it, but I hate taking my car to those idiots at the dealership, so I was wondering if anyone has come up with a DIY for the wind noise around the doors, driver's side mainly.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Here's a suggestion from the Audi forum that may/may not work.
Get yourself some clear plastic tubing like they sell in Lowes. It comes in various sizes like 1/4" (aquarium size), 3/8", etc. Stick it between the original door seal and the body channel so it forces the door seal outwards a little. This may close the gap and eliminate or reduce the noise. Sometimes.

I read a post on this a while ago from a search but can't seem to find the post again. Anyway, someone solved the air problem by lining the door, under the current weather seal with 1/4" Metro weather strip from Autozone. This sounds similar to the tube sealing technique from the Audi forum, and if I remember correctly, the orginal poster said it worked. I wish I acctually got around to doing it back then, sometimes its easy to get used to things that are off with your car.

Guys, I don't think the door seal is the culprit, I believe it is where the glass meets the seal in the body. I know when the dealership replaced the window seals it took care of my window noise. The new rubber seals were more pliable then the originals on my 04.

Is there a picture or a diagram...maybe from the manual, that will show where the Metro weather seal will go. Thanks
Well I found the old post I was thinking about. Heres a link https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...+weather+strip
It pretty much covers what we've been talking about here. It looks like you asked the same thing in that post too BRappaport!
This is a guess but it sounds like 1/2" metro weather striping is needed as the gap between the metal and the door seal is 3/4" and the seal needs to go over the weather strip.
Would have been nice if there was an update on that old post.

Thanks for finding the thread. Unfortunitly, I never did get an answer back...so I am still looking for a solution and/or clarification. I did not understand her reference to a "sleeve" to be pulled out. Her last post to this forum was in Dec 2007...but I will try to PM her again.
Anyway...if there is anyone out there in Forum Land that believes they have a solution...I'm ready to try it!!

Well I finally got around to trying out the weather stripping fix. I got 1/2" strip from the plumbing section at Walmart. I did pretty much what cgocifer said in the above post; running the strip along the seal attached to the door. It fixed the noise coming from the upper sections of both the drivers and passengers side windows. However, there is still some noise coming from the passenger side "plastic triangle" area, I'm going to need to experiment with that one. Overall the weather stripping fix work well. It cost about $3 and took about 10 minutes.
