Default Check Your Engine for Oil Leak

A common problem with the xFire is a leaking valve cover (usually drivers side). There are other links on this webpage <search>. I just had my fixed yesterday under warranty (River Oaks Chrysler Houston, Texas). It looks like they did a good job. Just wanted to add some facts: here is the part number: 5097104-AA https://www.mopargenuineparts.com/?g...FQEoGgodFUYJng
I think mine came without an actual gasket (looked like gasket sealer only) from the factory. Even though they listed the part number on my customer pickup invoice, I think they actually just put RTV back on it instead of the gasket. I cannot see the gasket just the sealer.
I went to the parts department after I picked up the car to look at a new gasket so I could post something here. The parts department said they did not stock the gasket and did not have one. So I assume dealers might just be using RTV to make this repair. It is not leaking now but I have only driven a few miles since picking it up yesterday.
Also at the dealer there was a Crossfire in for service, I popped the hood and it was leaking oil in the same place. I think any DIY er can easily replace this gasket. I takes a torque screw driver and a special 6 pointed socket. I am sure someone on here knows the exact wrenches.
Good luck. Check your and reply back: IS YOURS LEAKING?
My car is like brand new and has 9400 miles.

You are correct. There is no gasket to replace. I fixed my driver side and need to do the passenger side. It is a black RTV type gasket material sold at the auto parts store. Pull the cover, clean both side good and apply the new RTV to the cover and re-install. Make sure that you clean up all the little pieces of gasket when you do the cleaning on the engine. You dont want those little bubbas floating around inside your engine.

Good luck.

My XF's sitting in a storage lot under a huge pile of freshly fallen snow.

You wouldn't happen to have a fix for that by chance?

Friggin Minnesota!

The fix for that would be to MOVE..... I hear that Florida is not bothered with the white stuff... I am pretty partial to the West side of the country.... though I do see snow once in a while(but not for long)...

Yea no white stuff down in Florida. I would recommend to relocate as a fix for the snow!

If you do something nice for Kurts, he'll send you some cheese to go with your whine...

Just kiddin', I really miss the snow. From Madison, WI.

When I bought my car about a year ago the drivers side valve cover was leaking and the dealer repaired both valve cover gaskets. Everything was fine after that. The only problem is that a few weeks ago I pulled the car out of the garage to take it for a spin (one of the few nice days in CT), and there were just a couple small droplets of oil on the garage floor. I've driven the car a handfull of time since that and only noticed one more drop after that in the past few weeks. I guess this weekend I should take a closer look.

It may not be motor oil...

Kudos, Friend Max!

Nice comes with a price!

That's right boys & girls, the best cheese curds this side of the snow belt!
Now I have to see what I can do about sausage......

Haven't spotted anything gooing up my valve covers but the SRT does leave tiny, little black spots in random areas on the driveway. Easy to spot 'cause it's ALWAYS SNOW COVERED!
I suspect I've got the leaking sensor plug issue so time to drag it back to the dealer & see what happens.

My bad. 1000 apologies. Just have to vent sometimes. Florida must be closer to heaven than Minnesota is.

Well, we dodged a tornado today. Still want to trade?

I miss the snow. It doesn't try to relocate your house.

Turn on the Weather Channel today (& there's Kelly Cass in a short skirt !) & see that Alabama getting a good smacking of snow!
Be careful what you wish for: you just might get it!

I had the same oil leak at about 1500 miles new. There's two places to seal on our valve covers. When removing the cover theres the standard fiber type gasket that sets between the head & the cover itself. Replaced without RTV. Only set in place & cover retorqued. However on top of our valve cover is a vent type system which is a favorite leak area too, but this requires only RTV, usually blk., to seal this flange only. Not a hard job at all. I let the dealer repiar both under warranty. Brand new gasket shows at base of cover & semi-neat application of RTV shows on top valve cover under the vent plate area. This repair is about 1 yr. old & there isn't as much as a sweat leak yet. I understand this is usually a one time fix just like the usual auto. trans o ring leak that is much talked about here on the Forum. Hope yours holds!!
