Default Dealers vs RADIO

Guys,
Took my information to a dealer and asked about to have my radio replaced. Service guy laughed saying "Oh you got the info from the Internet?, well we don't do anything until Chysler tells us". A real *****!
He asked a geezer "Crossfire Tech" who laughed in my face and sais "I've seen 100 Xfires this month and haven't heard that one". Another *****! So I blew up, told them that there isn't 100 Xfires in the whole state and that they were really pissing me off. Just then the General Manager walked by and asked what was going on, the Tech said "this guy wants a new radio", the m,anager said "then replace it". Let me explain how Chrysler works. The radio is not on a recall, it's a "BULLETIN", so do not say recall when you go to have the radio replaced. I had a Jeep Cherokee that had poor air condictioning, complained about it and it was never repaired. Yeaers later I found out that a "BULLETIN" was out paying for the replacement. Be careful!
My Xfire goes in next week for a oil change, pinging that wasn't fixed before and a squeeky spoiler. This is my second visit to this dealer, the closest besides them is 35 miles away. I'll give them a try, but I think the whole problem is that the Dealers are not used to servicing a $35,000 car, they think they can BS their clients.
Maybe that's why new Crossfires are selling for $29,900 and you can pick and choose color and interior. What a joke!

I called my dealer and gave the service manager the TSB number. He looked it up and ordered my new radio. It came in, in 4 days and was installed the next day. I was only at the dealer for 20 minutes for the change. Needless to say I didn't have any problem.

I too gave the dealer the TSB number although they wanted to see the old radio before they ordered the new one. The radio arrived 3 days later and I had it installed when I brought my Crossfire in for its first service 7950 miles

I'm always checking dealerconnect for crossfire service bulletins(TSB).If the dealer doesn't check there computer for updated TSB's they would never no whats out. After you verify the complaint the next step is to check for TSB's.Some guy's are just stupid and lazy and would rather blow people off.You will find jerks like that in every business. We get some very strange complaints sometimes and sure enough there's a TSB on that problem.

Whenever I the humidty gets high, I hear a pinging when I put a try to accelrate without the auto trans downshifting. In my part of Florida the humidity gets real high, my car pings like crazy. I'm hoping I don't get the "it's at company specs answer again". In reading about the aftermarket powerchip, it seems that the stock chip takes in temp and humidity, I think that's the problem.

Initially, I caught attitude from the parts deptament re the radio. While I had the TSB copy on me, I first asked if one had been issuesd (I didn't want to appear as a smartass. As with cops, you have to approach these people very carefully). After a bit of dickin' with the keys the parts guru told me he couldn't find anything. I then gave him a copy of the TSB info and related chatter that I printed off this site. He read if for about a minute, and then looked again using the TSB#. Still couldn't find anything. At about that time the Service manager walked by, looked over his shoulded, and indicated that he do this, do that. Viola! The TSB appeared. The SM then took over, explained the process, walked me to the parts counter and instructed the clerk on how/what to order. He then nicely explained that the holidays would delay arrival but could expect the radio between Xmas and New Years.

The difference between the actions of the counterman and the SM was that of night and day. As a business owner of many decades I have yet to understand why incredibly bad service continues to exist when it is practiced so blatently. Amazing.

Crossfiretech: Was the tech just looking in the wrong place, or what?

Postscript: After ordering the radio I left o n a one-day, 200-mile biz trip. During which the CD player started doing its interpretation of a rap DJ; skipping, slowing, speeding up, etc. Figuring that the replacement radio would be more of the same, but easier to read, I went and ordered an ALpine unit with XM.

This Forum has good info!!!

Please share the TSB # for the radio replacement.

I am really aggravated  by the invisible letters and digits on the radio screen on sunny days. What were the radio manufacturers thinking?

Has anyone heard the inside story of this serious design/engineering defect?

Reg, I had the same problem one day early on...hasn't happened since, but it's one of the reasons I've ordered the new radio with a readable display. Hopefully it goes in next week.

Do you think the dealer will order a new radio if it's already been replaced with an aftermarket head unit? When I do sell the car (eventually... maybe) I'd like to pull out the aftermarket unit and replace the factory radio with the improved model.

OK, I posted a message here I could have sworn but it's not here anymore so maybe it offended someone.

Anyway, my contribution to this mess is that I discovered that the reason why there may be some confusion at some dealers is because the TSB doesn't appear on the service computer system when the VIN# is entered.

If your service person checks for applicable TSBs or if you give them the TSB number, it is found and they should work on it, but apparently, the SOP is that when the VIN# is entered, all applicable TSBs for the car should appear and apparently, the TSB for the radio doesn't.

I was told 3 TSBs appeared when they put in my VIN# but not the one that Crossfiretech listed. They did find the TSB when I gave them the number though and that cleared things up.

I think the reason they don't find the TSB when entering the vin # is that it's not a vin specific TSB. It's not a recall. What it is, is an authorization for the dealer to order and replace the radio after the customer complains about the poor daytime visability.

Had my radio replaced today, sounds the same and I can finally see what station I'm listening to. Now I have to find out what is causing the pinging I hear on humid/hot days. Any suggestions?

mouseridrc Did I understand you correctly? 3 TSBs popped up when your VIN was entered? What were THEY all about? Thanx.

Yup. I learned my lesson on my last stereo install: keep everything and put it back before you sell.

I'd give your dealer a call...seems to me they would be happy to trade them since DCX authorized the trade and the dealer doesn't have to do any work. But who knows what the dealer would say...
