Yes, I wasn't taking the numbers down when my fellow read them out to me. I'll be seeing him next week and I'll take down the numbers and post them.

I just had a call from my local dealer, Greenwood Market Motors, here in Youngstown, Ohio. The sevice advisor told me that they had gone ahead and ordered a new radio for me, and that it would be here next week.

That is great, especially since I had not yet complained about it. I was going to wait until my first oil change/service. On the same call, she asked if I was getting any wind noise around the doors. I said yes, and she told me that they would take care of that at the same time.

I thanked her for being proactive with these things, and I told her I would be passing it around how great I was being treated!!

I have NEVER been called in advance to have a minor problem fixed by a dealer. If this is how D/C is going to treat their customers, then their business is going to take a giant leap forward.

I am more happy about buying this car now than I was when I picked it up last October!

My dealer ordered the replacement radio. I passed on that, though. Instead I installed an Alpine with the XM radio feature. An immediate improvement in all areas. To begin with, AM/FM stations that eluded the grasp of the OE Becker are now easily received. And the XM option makes the X-Fire aural experience a truely memorable one. I'm a happier camper.

Got my replacement radio tonight...have to admit the bright green background at night is a little much...tomorrow I'll see how it reads in normal sunshine tho (I'm sure it will be worth the tradeout).

Another nice thing about that Alpine unit is that you can turn the display off altogether ( nice at night ). Whenever you touch a button or the **** the display lights up for a few seconds and then turn off . Love the MP3 feature

You be right. Gail. I'm lovin' it. Which MP3 device (iPod etc.) are you using?

Tried to post some JPGs but the "gallery" told me my files were "empty." Someone give me an idea as to what I'm doing wrong?

I'm not really complaining because it really is nice that I can actually read the new radio in daylight, but I have to admit that the old display did look more stylish (red on black (CORRECTION: green letters on black background)) than the new (black on green). Maybe that's why they opted for it in the beginning.

As for the Alpine, I'm not enough of an audiophile to put out the extra $$. One Nora Jones or Talking Heads CD and I'm set...although I love the idea you can turn down the display brightness.

You mean green on black for the original radio right?

Red on black!? My original was a sickly green.

Dianne, I've a "tin ear" so I wasn'r looking for the finest musical response I could get. I just got tired of being unable to receivewith conconsistent clarityeven the most powerful of stations. I live in a mountainous area, so this certainly exacerbated the situation. I think it unfortunate that I had to go the aftermarket route.

eek...I was thinking my old radio was red letters on a black background, but you're right...it may have been green letters on black...

Who knows? I couldn't see it!

Understoodc Thanx, I've yet to deal knowingly with the MP3 protocol. On the other hand, I continually burn and play CDs.

I took my new Crossfire to the dealer to replace the radio with a new one because of the display problem. He didn't have the radio in stock but got one within two days. When he put the radio in, he couldn't get it working because the display showed Protected on it. The service guy, who had gone through the appropriate training had no idea what that was, neither did the Chrysler reps he contacted. They did admit that they had a few phone calls on that issue but didn't know what to do. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!
Has anyone experienced this problem, or have any answers that I can communicate to the dealer?

Absolutely not. Reinstall your factory radio, and make sure all adapters and aftermarket plugs are removed, then take it in for the radio swap. A dealer won't go near your car under warranty if you have an Alpine or whatever poking out of the dash.

Just an update on the "Protected" radio syndrome. The radio is a Becker radio and it is shipped to the distributor in the US in the Protected mode. Becker then configures the radio to the appropriate vehicle. In my case they screwed up.

Their recommendation is to get the dealer to order another radio, which the dealer promised to do.

I took my car in for the radio swap today and since i work at the dealership i sat in the car while the swap was made and lo and behold i too saw the words protected in the display window of the new radio so while the tech reread the TSB on the dealer conect internet web site i looked over his shoulder and saw the ph number for united radio out of NY so i called them behind the tech's back and to make a long story short they said the radio had been locked out by the factory and that if we sent it back then they would resend another radio to us.Its a good thing i work at the dealership! can you imagine if i were Joe average and i took a day off from work to have this job done only to find out that the wrong radio was sent. thats what i call some major league incompetant busha on the part of united radio of NY anyway i leave for fla, tommorro on vacation so when i come back in a week i'll post what ever happen's on round two of HOW THE RADIO GETS SWAPED! An update on the "Protected" radio that was installed and didn't work. The dealer got a second replacement radio and it came up just fine.

If any reader has that problem (and there have been quite a few like that) just tell the dealer to order a replacement.
