Bobby Nc What bothers me most about your rude response is the implied (at least to me) a lack of respect for the customer. And yet, it doesn't surprise me. Perhaps you can shed a little light on just what it is that turns auto sales people into contendors for "Least respected professions?" Maybe I'm just buying in the wrong stores, but of the many cars I've purchased I can only recall one truely professional salesman with whom I've dealt. (It was at Stevens Creek Honda in Santa Clara, CA).

What is it about the job that turns so many of your fellow salesmen into realcjerks?

I just went to my dealer to check to see if it was too good to be true. I was right. $2200 down plus TTL right. Well, my dealer QUOTED me as the down payment being well over $4000. If you only have to put down 2200 and you were still offered the 299/month, the car would be sold for much less (not a crossfire). That's the catch.

Here's my advice...
1)Print a copy of the 39 Month lease special from the www.Chrysler.com web site. It doesn't have ALL the details you'll need but its a start. Show it to the dealer when they claim there's no deals on the X-fire.

2)From the web site, go to the Crossfire section and "build a car". Next go to "search dealer inventories" button. Find the dealers with the most X-fires. I found 2 in Detroit with over 20 cars in stock while most only had a couple. A dealer with only a couple cars on hand is less likely to deal as they are willing to wait for that whale (a got to have it at any price buyer).

3)Either there is alot of dumb dealers here in Detroit or DCX has done a very poor job communicating the lease deals. I had one dealer practically yell at me ("DCX has No deals on the X-fire") when I said I was interested in the X-fire and I wanted to get more info regarding the 39 mn lease special. I'd hate to see the non 5 star dealers. Another dealer tried to make me negotiate my price even though I qualified for a (lower) non-negotible price.

4)Unfortunately you need to be informed and persistent. Losing your cool and yelling won't help either. Intimidation seems to be a selling technique at least here and when I lived in Chicago.

5)Make sure you understand leasing, (Money factor, residuals, net cap cost etc.) how state tax is applied.

Both dealers I went to didn't know about the 299 deal either. One said they couldn't do it, the other gave me somewhat of a hard time, but ended up giving it to me.

I pick my blaze red 6-speed up tonight.

I ended up with the following deal, all fees/taxes included:
39mo lease, 12k miles/year
$2400 Cash down
$400 College Grad Rebate
$314/month

residual value around $17k

Also, there is a $300 lease disposal fee, or a $150 purchase fee.

I'd say I got a heck of a deal.

<<last week 389 per month lease...this week 299 per month lease...same down...$2114...anyone with info on why this has gone down would be helpful>>

Any mfr incl. Chrysler's incentives vary monthly, sometimes even more frequently than that. Lease and sale specials are combos of mfr and dealer goals. In January when Xfire sales were a little slow there was actually a rebate/discount going on straight sales, then it got yanked. Recently Chrysler has been pushing the lease, offered directly thru Chrysler Financial rather than a 3d-party....what makes the lease cheap is that it has a sub-1% interest rate built in, blowing the 3d-party lease rates away. Also they have been combining it with a national program whereby every dealer can take 1/2 their inventory and call a car a "demo" even if it has 2 miles on it, then knock $2500 off the price. All this because, again, sales esp. during winter have not been maybe what they want for this car, and it needs to be on the road to advertise itself.

The lease program is good thru 3/31 I think but there may be new incentives come Mar. 2. Or maybe not.

Having just got the $299 lease, I can tell you that part of why it is so low is that it includes a $2500 chrysler cash rebate if you will, so it's as if you put $5000 down instead of the $2498 my drive off was. They seem to just have problems selling these as prices have been slashed, and i think part of it is that nobody sees them on the road or knows what they are. I think chrysler thinks if they get some out there on the road, sales will pick up. I actually hope they don't cause I like having a unique car and don't want this to be as popular as the Z and such that are a dime a dozen here in LA.

gregthegr8,

i agree. the $2500 lowered your lease price considerably. based on the lease amount, the cost capitalization on your car was probably only $30K, and maybe even less. you'll pay a little over $14K during your lease if you turn it in (including the $300 disposal fee, not including taxes, etc). the $17K payoff suggests approximately a 55% residual value.

the $2500 rebate ended yesterday. the chrysler website still has the lease deal listed but states that it is good only through march 1, 2004. the rebate on a purchase has disappeared from the carmax site (updated daily) and the prices went up accordingly. i can't imagine that the rebates won't come back unless sales go up significantly. i guess the best scenario (for current crossfire owners) is for sales to strengthen enough in the spring so as to not make additional incentives necessary, but at the same time not convince chrysler that they need to increase production.

Look guy's I'm not at work. Do you think i would talk about the dealings of our buis the same way if i was in a work setting. I'm just sitting back on my computer enjoying the forum, reading the post's. Is that what it's come down to. Now i have to put my shirt and tie on and defend all car salesman from my home PC while everybody else on the forum can say whatever they want about whatever topic. Stop trying to pick apart the 299.00 plus tax lease with 1999.00 down 12 k 39 mo. Just go to the dealer with the internet ad and let them figure it out. Ooooh I'm a bad salesman! But when you come to my store you'll drive out with that crossfire just the way the ad say's and the only up front costs first payment sec deposit

registration and taxes as waranted by your states dept of revenue. Do i have to pull my slide ruler out of my pocket. This is my private time. And weather your a plumber or a hair stylist or you train the whales at SeaWorld i'm sure everybody on the forum knows there buis and i'm having a blast watching everybody try to find a hole in this lease. I put my real name on these posts and ph# in hopes that some fellow crossfire admirer would call so i could help them get into this car cheap thats all. I've sold close to 5000 new cars at this multi franchise dealship. the same chrysler showroom since the Phillies were in the world series. And when i go to work the game face gets put on just like everybody on this forum when they go to work. And when i come home its about my family and my friends and my good customers Who with out them we would not have a buisness. ........... Bob Nieves Reedman Chrysler 215-757-4961

Some good news to report. A new, yes brand new, commercial featuring all new chrylser vehicles, including the Crossfire Roadster and SRT-6. They show the SRT-6 in a wind tunnel and the Roadster near a pier (I think) afterall, commercials aren't very long. The commercial also featured the Coupe, 300C, and Pacifica. Here's hoping DCX keeps churning out beautiful views of the three Crossfires.

The new commercial is great.....definately done with class. The cinematography was beautiful.

So much better than most American car commercials. I'm just thankful it didn't involve screaming Led Zep. Ugh.

Why is it that all these lease prices are so HIGH?? Have prices dropped this much in two months?

I have a NEW 2004 XFire Coupe Limited AutoStick & ASP Tires with an MSRP of 35,755. The dealership got me a DC Employee # through some friends and family special, also a Chrysler Cash rebate & Lease loyalty cash.

DC Employee Friend & Family VIA Dealership (-$3500)
Chrysler Cash Rebate (-$2500)
DC Lease Loyaty Cash (-$1000)
Lease Disposal Fee Coupon (-$300)
Free Oil Changes for 36mo/36K
Dealer Negotiated (-$263)

39mo/15K per year, 1st month due at signing, $23 for plate transfer and taxes on all rebates with $400 total due at signing. And they had to trade for the car. And I am not a DC employee or friend of one either. This was about four weeks ago.

$249 + tax = $263.94 per month.

Lets see if this makes the forum a little fiery

Look at the date of the posts... These are from March. Prices have come down since then.

yeah but by that much? the national advertising campaign in still for $299 with over $2700 due at signing for 12K per year.

Did my dealership take a loss on my car or was it a mistake on their part? Even though it is a high volume, i.e. over 800 cars per month, dealership, its still not sound business practice to make a deal that you lose money on.

I really don't know. I have the title for mine and really haven't followed what they are selling for these days. I'm just happy I have mine. I think since the "Crossfire Lite" has come out they are dealing more on the 2004s.

What is the Crossfire Lite, is that the bare bones version, only available in black for 2005 or is that another name for the roadster.

One last thing what does SSB mean? everyone seems to write that next to Crossfire.

Thanks

That would be the one. The stripped down model.

SSB = Saphire Silver Blue

One last thing in your signature you wrote 80 watt Xenon bulbs. Did you simply replace the H7 bulbs with 80watt ones or did you get the whole package with Ballasts and everything. Also how easy was it to replace and are there any instructions for doing this, anywhere?

thanks

These are Zenon bulbs. They don't require a ballast like true HID. They are direct replacement H7 bulbs. I got them on ebay. There are a ton of them there.

And you're very welcome. Glad to help.
