A/C not working properly + Coolant fluid light
Hey guys!
I just got back from Miami. On my way down there I noticed the coolant fluid light came on. Went to AutoZone and got some cooland fluid and refilled a litte, there was hardly any missing though. The engine also does not over heat or anything.
My bigger problem was that the A/C was blowing warm air. It was weird because sometimes the A/C would blow cold air and sometimes it would just blow warm air. What a trip, considering the temperatures in Miami
Does anybody know what's going on here? I got someone from AutoZone to come out with one of those compressor kits for the A/C and they said the pressure was perfectly fine. Don't know what the problem is or what to do! I might have to take it to a mechanic?
Thanks for any input!
Nick

Good chance maybe the sensor in the reservoir is defective. And possibly with the low coolant light on, the ECU won't allow the AC compressor to engage to prevent overheating if it were actually low on coolant. Just a thought.

Thank you for your input. I was thinking something along those lines. Will have to take it to a shop I guess. Now I will just have to figure out who will be able to help me out since I sure as hell don't trust the Chrysler morons around here! They have nothing but ripped me off so far and broke more stuff!
The coolant light means the PTCM sees SOMETHING wrong, low coolant, no communication with the Fan Control Module, etc. As has been pointed out, as a safety measure it could be that the PTCM is preventing A/C clutch engagement. I DO know that if the PTCM looses contact with the Fan Module, it does NOT prevent A/C engagement, trust me, I know!
But if there is something else going on... then maybe James is right. (And he often is.)
Why don't you update your info so we know where you are? That way, if any of us are local, we can tell you where we go. (Example: In Atlanta, you want to go to BuckHead Import Service.) I have a local shop that works on Mercedes, in fact, one of the partners in the business has a wife who drives an SLK or CLK - this guy knows MY car and I trust him completely, and he only charges $90 per hour.

How do I update my information?
Thanks for all the input. Went to a Mercedes dealership and they found the fan was going bad. I will try and get a second opinion but in a way it makes sense to me. What does everybody think?

It's definitely the fan control module. Same thing happened to my car few years back. Dealer replaced the module and the whole motor as that went bad too. This was a recall item so it's possible if it wasn't done on your car you'll get it done for free. Go to Chrysler.com and type in your VIN under the recalls section. It'll come up whether the replacement was done.
Thanks for the info. I just typed in my VIN in the recalls section and unfortunately it was returned as "no outstanding recalls for your vehicle"!
I assume it was replaced before but still broke down! Now I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay for replacement. The shop I took it to asked $342 for parts and labor. Not too bad I assume but still expensive. I saw the part online somewhere for $120 bucks.
Going to shop around a bit and see if I can get it done for cheaper. It sucks that this is not covered as a recall since it's obviously a POS fan!

I had the same issue, and it was a inexpensive fuse/breaker the dealer replaced that was giving me the same symptoms you are seeing.
