Anyone experienced this?
Hi Guys,
Well I have had my crossfire for a month or two now and I am now getting a squeal when i turn the steering wheel (no brakes and not a hard lock). It is noticeable after I have driven maybe 10 - 20KM (12 mile). I have taken it back to the dealer and they did some work but it is still not fixed. I called the service manager today and he is consulting with someone from DC in the states to see if they know what it could be.
Any ideas or suggestions?
It is also bloody hard to ascertain what level of wind noise & creaking is acceptable in a brand new car (it has 2000KM or 1250 miles) ... I have taken it back once and the creaking is better but not perfect ... what do i do????
Personally I think this forum is great and there is a wealth of information contained within ... it would be a shame for it to be split into two.

Presumably the dealer checked the power steering fluid level and belt tensions. I would check the power steering fluid if you have not already done so.
The creaking noise sounds weird. I don't think you should experience that but you would have to clarify by what you mean and where is it coming from before I can comment further.
I find that there is some wind noise but you know I think it is worse on the passenger side when I have the window down and then put it back up.
If you close the door with the window up, the noise is not too bad. Probably could use an adjustment but in my case it is not worth the risk of buggering it up.
I can live with that since my exhaust is no longer factory and is louder than the wind noise.

Thanks for your reply.
I know the dealer checked the belts & gave everything a good clean around the rotors ... Thanks for your tip I will check the power steering fluid tomorrow.
The creaking noises are coming from the door panels ... it seems to be a little worse on the drivers side door. I know they have adjusted this but i just wonder if they can adjust it better (ie no noise over bumps)!
They said they performed the TSB for the wind noise ... It definitely isn't any worse but it isn't much better.
When I'm back at the dealership (which will be soon) I may try & go for a drive in their demo & compare the differences & i'll also try and get the tech to come for a drive with me so I can point out my concerns.

Creaking from door panels is definitely a problem--shouldn't be there.
Have you tried driving with window down to see if that makes a difference?
Did the dealership have the door panels off?

Not sure what the problem is here but if the dealer is ordering new pads for the front, why would they not order new rotors as well?
I have never heard of pads not being straight but rotor warp is a common problem especially after a long time of wear. I suppose you could have a bad set of pads but you could also have a bad set of rotors right from the factory. Have they checked the rotors?

Thanks Guys, I will stick with the pads they have already ordered. When they need to be replaced I will definitely be looking at getting a set of ROTEX GOLDS! (not sure if they are available here in Australia) The car goes in Wednesday week and I'm going to go for a drive with the Tech to point out all my concerns etc .... I will tell him to check the rotors and see what he thinks.
"Not sure what the problem is here but if the dealer is ordering new pads for the front, why would they not order new rotors as well?"
Probably because they're tight .... I hate dealing with these guys!

I have this same sound. I upgraded to porterfield pads. I assumed it could have been the pads slightly grabbing. Since it is only on slow turning with the wheel locked to one side, I won't worry about it.
I think it is the tires scrubbing, since the turning radius on the car is pretty sharp, the outside tire is probably scrubbing a little, causing the noise.

I have a 2004 with the same problem with the driver's door panel. I just had it in to the dealership for it's first oil change and some other minor items. It turns out that the door panel creaking is actually worse down at the bottom of the door near the storage bin. The tech called Chrysler & was told to order a new door panel. I have read elsewhere on this & other Crossfire forums of the problem being solved the same way. One of the problems with trying to adjust the door is that the air bag needs to be dealt with. I'm not sure if the air bag gets replaced also.
I would contact your dealer & see if they will agree to order a panel to correct the problem. I will report on the fix & let you know if it works.
Changing the subject somewhat. I have been irritated that the Crossfire doesn't have an "accessory delay" feature. What I am referring to is that the car retains power to the windows and HomeLink remote for a short period after turning the ignition off, but before you open a door in the event you left the window down, etc. I have recently read in a brochure for the car & advertising of features elsewhere that IT has an "accessory delay" feature. I asked the dealer tech to check it out & determine if mine is just inoperative. He says the car does not come equiped with such an "accessory delay". Does anyone have this feature in their vehicle?
Thanks for the responses.
John

Re the accessory delay feature.
I can tell you that there is a feature that allows you to turn the radio back on after the key has been removed and the radio power is there for a time (not sure how long).
I have not tried any other functions such as windows, etc. and it was through this forum that I found out about the radio.
I'm sure someone else can comment on this as well.
