Well if this topic is looking for the mirrors to have lights or arrows they have them in most R&D mags Or Motortrend adds.in back pages.
I wonder how hard it would be to replace the manual dimming mirrors with automatic ones?
I bet I couldn't do it, aren't the automatic dimming mirrors electric? There are no wires going to the mirror and I have a roadster, so there is not much up there.

MI, my guess is that these mirrors use magic glass to dim bright lights. I don't know how they do it but I would not be surprised if the brighter the artificial light, the glass can do tricks and shadow the light.
If that is the case, my guess without looking at the installation, all you have to do is get your hands on an 'o4 mirror and interchange. i wouldn't worry about it though, doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
Once again, if I'm right, I wonder why DC went back to the old style. Possibly there was an issue with the supplier of the "magic" glass. What do you think?
BTW, I'm going to send you a PM telliing you what happened the other night when I went out to check my wing after reading your post about the wire clip. Interesting story.

i think COST was an issue for the 05' rear view mirror...not function. they have to give deep discounts to sale these cars...and still need to make some type of profit = cut build costs.
The auto dim mirror does use electric much like an auto dim welding mask. The reason they quit using them was because of the introduction of the Roadster. The cost associated with the addition of different parts to choose from runs much deeper than the part its self that requires the addition of extra robotics! Not to mention where do you hide the wires in the roadster?

With regard to your comment about "having more", I agree 100%. My 2006 GTI had a TON more features than my GTI, despite a $13k difference in the sticker price. Then again, the transaction price came down to only about a $2k difference between the two.
But please don't forget that the Crossfire is very heavily based on a production car that came out in what, 1997? Just having heated seats was a big deal back then. Updating the cars to more modern specs would have cost MB money, of which spending any money on Chrysler was simply too much for the Germans. As it was, I bet the MB made out like bandets on the crossfire--95% of the development/engineering was already done. Having said that, IMO, what MB skimped out on with regard to features was more than made up by the overall quality of the finished product. Until I sat in the 2012 300c (which I have a massive crush on), there wasn't another chrysler-branded vehicle I would have remotely considered due to build quality.
Anyone ever see a post where someone tried to use another cars auto dimmiming Rearview mirror - I have an oldsmobile intrigue that has an auto dim mirror and a built in cumpas too. I am going to scrap the car out and wondering if I could use the upgrade rearview mirror into the xfire?
i see a lot of outdated references and would like to clarify. my 03 slk32 has outer dimming mirrors inner dimming mirror turn signals in the mirrors rain sensor wipers and for the time integrated fone in the stereo system. its also a hardtop vert so wiring wasn't an issue. heated and power seats were standard not an option.
as for the xfire being built on a 97 chassis thats partially incorrect. the r170 bodystle came out in 97 but only in a 4 cal s/c engine. the xfire is based more on the facelifted 2001 to 2004 r170 which came with the 3.2 6 cylinder engine and suspension to support it. if you want turn signals in the mirrors try the r170 instead of the r171 body
