Factory Fogs on Base Coupe/Roadster
I was wondering if anyone has installed the factory fog lights on their base coupe/roadster. I was considering this, but didnt know if the wiring was already there or it needs to be added as well. I know that my headlight switch pulls out 2 notches, but dont know if it is a functioning switch. How much the total project cost? Thanks!
I wanted to do the same thing and asked the dealer. They didn't know and couldn't find any difference in the tech manual so the service manager went out and dug around in a limited to figure out the routing of the wiring then checked out mine. The harness didn't seem to have the connectors but he said it was possible that they might be taped over. The part that seemed to be missing was the LED on the dash just below and to the left of the switch which I assume is an indicator to show the ON state. He finally said if I wanted it done they would order the Lights and dig into the wiring adding wires if needed. I haven't taken him up on it yet. I was hoping to learn more also.

i would bet the harness is behind the fog and all you would need is the lamp assembly. i think i would cost more for chrysler to remove the harness in the long run than just running it and taping it close to other wires near the lense. i would take a closer look behind the blank cover and under the bumper.
Besides Looking Like A Ltd.? Why Bother they Don't Do Much For Driving. I Think High Power Driving Light Would Be A Better Investment. Beside The Factory Fog Break Real Easy I've Already Replaced One At $120. It Cracked The First Month I Owned Mine. Put a Nice Grill In There.
i used "xpel" (clear film) to cover all my lenses...for around $50. its a great investment.

The black inserts look so cheesy and if it will only cost about $250 for the light assemlies, I think it would be worth it for me. I didn't know if anyone had done it yet and how much work is actually involved. I didnt want to go out in the freezing cold and check for wiring if I could help it. Snow, rain and ice predicted for tomorrow so it will have to wait until next week. Ill report back with what I find.
Do I get it right? The base crossfire has less equipment and features as the limited? And it's only available in black? Here in Switzerland your limited is a regular Crossfire and your base is called here Black Beauty.
I don't know how much electric power the whole car needs. But the base has a 510 Amp battery only. Might need more Amps for installing much additional electrical devices.

it sounds like Chrysler changed the headlight switch also. I know they already have at least three versions (US-spec, Canada-spec with DRLs, euro-spec with rear fog lamp and headlight aiming adjustment) and now it sounds like they have a fourth. the fuses are also part of that headlight switch assembly IIRC so you may need to buy more than just the pair of fog lamp housings to make it work.
i agree that it would look cool, but for $250 or a little more you could buy an HID kit that would actually help your vision, instead of just helping your image.

You don't have any rear fog lamps in US? What happens when you pull the light switch to the 2nd position? Nothing or you don't have any 2nd step? Mine has 1st step for front fog lamps and 2nd for rear fog lamp.
Well to be honest, sometime I wish we wouldn't have any neither. Some stupid put them on when there's a little fog already. And than forget to switch it off! Might drive you crazy being behind such dumb. Even if you high beam them, they haven't a clue why you're doing it, become confused and get nervous...

no rear fogs in the US. some cars have them just as incidentals (Audi, Jaguar, Saab, Volvo, maybe a few others) but there's no law that requires them. the second pull-out position does nothing on US-spec cars, and we're missing the little indicator on the headlight switch. nor do we have the headlight adjustment switch in the US.
To all Do-it-yourselfers:
I did end up putting the factory fog lights in on my own. I got a used one off of ebay that works perfectly and I got the other from the dealer at $110.00. Concerning the switch, it is the same as all other American switches. All one has to do is put a fuse in the location where it is marked fogs on the side in the door. The led comes on in the switch when it is pulled out one position. There is a plug in that location, but light still shines through. Concerning wiring, there is absolutely NO wiring in the connectors. I had to run my own wiring from the switch to the fogs. This wasn't hard at all once I figured out which terminals in the connectors were power for the fogs. I looked it up on the following site. The power comes from a 3 row black terminal in the back of the switch, pins 20 and 21 if I remember correctly. I fashioned my own terminals to work in the connector and ran the wiring with connectors on the other end to plug into the lamps. Everything works great. After having the lights on at night and closing the doors, the fogs come on automatically with the led's. I am happy I finally did it, because it definitely wasn't as hard as it looked to be. Take a look at the link if you decide to do it to familiarize yourself with the back of the switch and the pin locations. I suggest testing everything with a meter like I did, before you go hooking anything up to power. Good Luck!!

I would like to know how much it would be also. I've been told that you have to get a new headlight switch, fog assemblies, and a section of wiring harness. The dealership told me it would cost about $700 for all the parts, but I didn't get any part numbers. I'm going to drop my car off there next week to get my drivers side headlight replaced, so I will try to get the part numbers then.

Thanks for the help. I can tackle that one. I bought the fog lights ($80 each new), the illuminated door sills, eibach pro kit springs, and HIDs for the head lights and fogs. Needless to say, I've been doing a little shopping...

What connector did you guys use to plug into the back of the foglight itself?
I do not plan to use the stock switch as I want the lights to basically function as DRL's, and be on when the ignition is on. A switch will allow me to kill the lights if I don't want them on. I know the lights themselves do not put out much illumination as far as seeing goes, but I think they will let my black car be "seen" more readily.
BTW, my biggest reason for installing the lights on a base is esthetics - as has been said before, the blank plate looks like crap, and the lights themselves accent the front fascia.
