oil: which brand?
Thank you leftover Pizza, I mean Pizza to-go, I mean pepperoni Pizza. Damnit! You know what I mean, Thank you.
Along with 'zero4crossfire's link (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Castrol-E...5-QT/145736795) you have moved some oil off the shelf today!!! And, also, sell your stock in Mobil 1. Yeah.

Enjoy and spend. On flip side I never heard a MB as the requirement (not recommendation). As long as its meets/exceeds the Specs which ST does....Ill use it all day long. Too bad I cant get a ST oil filter (I use them on all my Vette's)...Hate Oil companies-they put fear in you..

For those interested in using Castrol Edge full synthetic 0w40, I found it on Amazon today for $19.31 per 5-qt jug. Pretty good price! Free 1-day delivery if you are a Prime member.

from wiki:
The number before the 'W' is the 'cold' viscosity rating of the oil, and the number after the 'W' is the 'hot' viscosity rating. So a 5W40 oil is one that behaves like a 5-rated single grade oil when cold, but doesn't thin any more than a 40-rated single grade oil when hot.
then see post 5. i ended up using pennzoil euro platinum. from the study mentioned at the post, pennzoil does better than mobil. and i think choosing 0 or 5 is not critical after all.
depends mostly of the temps where you are, the availability and offers. what am using is this:
the specs here show several options of the euro for cars like the crossfire https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/229.5_en.html
0W40, 5W30, 5W40

Ok, let me take a stab at summarizing the engine oil advice:
Links to the current MB oil specifications:
There are only two 5W-50 oils that meet the 229.3 specification, both are Mobil 1. 5W-50 does not appear on the 229.5 specification, but that might not matter based our engines being pre-2005, though this thinking may not be correct.
[Me: I've been using Mobil 1 0W-40 with Mann filters. When I run out of Mobil 1 a few years from now, I might switch to 5W-40.]
- Full synthetic only
- Meets both Mercedes specifications MB-Approval 229.3 and MB-Approval 229.5
- Although our cars' documentation specified 0W-40, 5W-40 is an appropriate substitute
- Use a high quality oil filter (e.g., Mann HU-718/5X)
