I think most Crossfire owner's have been using the same drink holder that I use. Problem is that the holes are so big the drink "wobbles" around for normal sized drinks. I always fear that when I turn a corner the drink will fall out. I cut strips of "closed cell foam" and inserted in the top ring of the holder and now secures drinks. It now secures my drinks which is almost always an insulated coffee mug. Between the seat and tunnel I have one of those fillers that keeps items from falling between seat and tunnel which also secures the drink holder. I'm sure there's room for improvement but for now it works great. My original, worthless, cup holder is missing so I use the hole for my wallet and cell phone.

I really like your cup holder! I've not seen one like that being sold before. Where did you find it and what did you pay for it?
Gonna need a little adhesive to keep it from pulling out with the drink. I think that if there are people out there having 3d printing equipment could make a plastic ring that would fit snuggly in the cup holder. Don't think the foam insert I used is a forever thing. $$ money makingTip! I seldomly, if ever, have a passenger's comfort to worry about. My wife has never ridden in any of my Xfires in the five years I started owning mine. She says "it's ugly and it sits too low to the ground!" She's only 4' - 11" and can't see out the window! LoL. SUITS ME!

She shared it on Facebook a couple years ago
Here's the one I made. It fits in the storage bin and is removable. It will hold a bottle of water or even 20 ounce Gatorade bottles.
The instructions are here: Dual Cup Holder
Your cup holder is pretty ccooool! As usual a great job on how to make one instructions shown on your link. For me though, it would be cumbersome for my right arm. Shifting, on my manual shift car, would make me uncomfortable reaching near, over or around the drinks. I see in your picture yours is also installed with a manual shifter. Not too much of a problem with an automatic tranny though. "For me" it just seems that it would be in the way too much of the time. "Need is the mother of invention!"

I only use it on long trips. The only time it has really gotten in my way was shifting into reverse. Also, it's easily removed.

I use mine daily for "short" trips. Being retired and a home body, I have to find excuses to go somewhere just to drive my car. Usually in the mornings and evenings I drive a couple miles to my favorite coffee house "WaWA!" When I drive my wife somewhere it's always in her KIA Sorento as she "adamantly" refuses to ride in one of my Crossfires.
I found the Audi drink holder on eBay. You have to be careful to make sure all the parts are there. I made the bracket out of flat 1" aluminum. It is attached underneath by a screw that I feed through the black center piece. Then I carefully drilled the holes for the two screws that hold it to the bulkhead. You have to be careful, as the gas tank is behind that bulkhead. It works well and holds a water bottle with ease.
As you noted, your right elbow is clear of any obstruction.
There's a lot to be said for having everything as original as possible. For me I prefer not to have `the console drink holder working. I use the hole as a wallet and cell phone holder and works out great for me. I have the "as usual" two drink holder and works great! I modified the drink holder top with high density foam to hold drinks stable. I don't buy "BIG GULP" sodas which is about all that the big holes work with.
I would install the storage bin in the hole for the factory cup holder though.
I bought one on eBad couple months ago and it would not fit at all! It was about 1/8", or more, too wide and I tried filing on it, gave up and thru it in the trash!
