Default Oil Filter

Went to my local Chrysler dealer today for an oil filter. He told me he was out (on backorder) and didn't know when they would be in. I asked him what was going on. He told me he received an email from Chrysler telling him to return all the old filters for the crossfire. He then said the filter was being changed but didn't know why. Anyone experience the same routine?

There is a newer design (fleece) which supersedes the older pleated type.
If you do have the pleated type - they are perfectly fine. The newer type supposedly hold up better with the longer intervals between changes.

If you need the service, go to an MB dealer and buy the filter (or have them do the oil change) and take it back to your Chrysler dealer. Same filter. I bought my filter at the Chrysler dealer, he had the new fleece filter.

Sorry, just noticed you have North Texas listed...I bought my filter at Huffine's in Denton, if you are close.

I saw a post on this topic about bringing your own oil filter from MB & even your own oil for that matter. Has anyone had their "off the street" items refused because the service folks didn't want the responsibility of using your products? I've had that happen on an unrelated issue years back. I want to go by the MB dealer & pick up the filters but not if I'll be turned away.

Talking Re: Oil Filter

I've been going to the same guy for almost 10 years now. Its the place I took our work vans for their preventive maintenance and I've always been able to bring my own oil and filter to him and give him $10.00 for the oil change. I like this because the oil gets taken care of the right way and I stay nice and clean, although I do add the oil to the engine because I'd rather lean over the fender then have them do it. This way, I can at least say I do "something".

Why would anyone that drives a $35,000 car cheap out and throw the guy $10. And for that matter why would anyone want to be bothered for $10 measly bucks. The next time you do this throw the guy a fifty and say thanks for helping me out. 50 bucks is probably nothing to you but it will mean the world to this guy. Pay it forward and make the world a better place. And yes, I do practice what I preach.

knowit... knows not (i think ...lol)!!!

give aero a chance... if you read carefully, it states $10 for oil change not tip!
it takes a good mechanic only 10 minutes for the change... maybe 20 min for the XF.

AND it seems that aero had a fleet of vans maintained by the same mechanic... sometimes when you do business with some one for a long time... friendships develop and the act of tipping becomes insulting...

tipppppping is irrrrrrelevant...

too funny,

j.

Thanks having my back. "Knowit" doesn't "get it!" The place I go to is a 10 minute oil change, so I just roll in, hand him the $10.00 and he drains and installs the oil filter, that's it. I lean over and pour in the oil and reset the FSS, I even bring my own funnel. I'm in and out in no time. I've also sent my buddy alot of business in the past, not counting our vans that we used to have. He's a great guy and I do appreciate him doing this for me. BTW, I'm not cheap or rich my any stretch of the imagination, I just know what I want and do it.

Nothing arrogant about what I said. Sorry if it came across that way. I was one of those little guys before I had my own business. I used to hate when someone would try to cheap out to get me to do something for nothing. If you are giving more business besides, that's great. But xfire1 you know as well as I do that a little extra cash in the hand goes a long way at getting things done. I do a lot of business in NYC and I always carry a few large bills to "take care" of the ones that take care of me. I would think that you being from NYC, you of all people would understand that.

Anyway, no harm meant, its all good.

KNOWIT... something is amiss here... either you or I is missing the point... if it is me well...!?!?
Tipping is irrelevant. If you are campaigning for Better Tips for the Needy, this is the wrong (in my belief) forum. Especially accusing people of being cheap...

If you really want to know... I get questioned by my wife ALL the time when i tip... it IS usually too much (if it is warranted by excellent service)... and during the days when i was a struggling ...up and coming "something", trying to keep food on the table/ business and school, i would tip well, even if it hurt my own pocket. What i've learned is... the BEST tips come from the people who know WHAT hard work is. I owned a company in the service industry for Many many years... and found that blue collar workers are the Best tippers... as the white collar crowd tends to give no more than 20%.

However... with all due respect to you XFbrother... i found it foul to rip a fellow XF brother... AERO ...that way in this type of forum.

Diplomacy is the best route before an attack... i believe you attacked 1st.

So as you wanted to SHOW AERO what you think is right, i feel i am showing proper etiquette. This forum is the last place i want to see people trashing... like you say i am in NY and its ALL ABOUT RESPECT.

Take care...

josh

Aero, if I offended you please accept my apology. It wasn't meant like that. Sometime these forums aren't all they are cracked up to be because it is impossible to tell how the poster meant something. Reading is quite literal and speaking is much more perceptual.
I was just dumb founded why anyone would do an oil change for $10.
You cleared it up.

As for you xfire1, you seem to be just a little to eager to fight someone else's battle. I am going to cut you a little slack as a brother Crossfire owner. We are a big family and sometimes we get a little dysfunctional. As for the next time I am in NYC, I will take your coffee and then I will take YOU to Peter Lugers for a nice steak dinner. No hard feelings here.

Moving on.

Better yet, let's meet at Larry Flints place on the West Side Highway and redirect all this energy (and tip money) we have. LOL
