Understood, it's a big harsh, but you need to understand we're not particularly impressed with Doc.

He lost his mind, accused us of hitting his car, called us everything from rednecks to lowlifes, basically stated he wants to fraudulently hide an accident from the next buyer (no carfax), etc. This is one of your leaders?

I REALLY hope he also wasn't one of the two pompous jerks who parked under the overhang blocking the hotel entrance during the rainstorm while women and children hoofed it through the pouring rain (while the CF boys sat and watched the people getting soaked as they gazed at their precious cars through the window).

The Impala community is strong, and they stick together. We are also used to challenging (and being challenged) by other car groups, so I guess it was like mixing oil and water in some cases. The people there seemed a bit, um, delicate I guess.

Just so you know, I am the original owner of my 95 SS and I also own a highly modified 2007 Trailblazer SS that I took to the track with all of 100 miles on it. I also own a 69 Camaro SS396 Convertible as well as a 94 Impala SS with a big block 502 stuffed in it. I'm not telling you this to impress you but to tell you most of the Impala guys are into performance and driving their cars hard as well as looking good. I can run 11's and I also won my class in the car show with my 95 SS. We got the impression that the CF people were generally 'waxers' which is what you call people who just buy a car for looks. It's ok to be a waxer, but it's a bit lower on the car guy food chain. Drive it like you stole it!

But I digress. I guess the point was Doc, who was only there one night, was making wild accusations and comments based on something we didn't do AND making comments on our behavior based off 3rd hand info.

Sorry for appearing to be such jerks, we're just a bunch of guys going on 15+ years with our cars so we like to have a little fun.
You guys are a different type of car person for sure. I have worked in the car business for over a decade, my family has been in the business for over 40 years and I grew up in Corvette clubs - that being said I have never met "car people" like you guys before. I spend every weekend either at the track or at a car show.

As far as Doc being our leader - we don't have "leaders". What we have is friends. As I noted in my previous post, we are a tight crew. We support each other. When our members are running for Car of the Decade, autocross championships, open wheel racing, or car shows - we all turn out in droves to support each other. We also are involved in each other's lives - visiting each other in hospitals, shuttling each other around in other cities/countries, breaking bread together, giving advice on life issues - all without a XF coming into the mix.

We have been to many car events with other car clubs and always have a great time with those groups. We have spent time with Porsche and Corvette clubs - got along with those guys with NO issues at all. We were parked with the Prowlers at Woodward and it doesn't sound like there were any problems there either. My XF's are at car shows every weekend and parked next to Impalas all the time. The owners are gracious and as interested in my car as I am in their car. A 1967 Impala SS might be my favorite car of all time - as I have stated on this forum MANY times.

You guys have stated that everywhere you go that you guys get into these verbal altercations and everywhere we go we have a great time with other car clubs. I guess that means that we have to notice a common thread with both clubs.

You also noted that Doc didn't say thank you, but you might want to go back & re-read the thread. His next post after the other Impala member posted the tag pic was saying thank you.

As far as being "waxers" - we enjoy our vehicles a LOT! Mine does get waxed a lot. It also hits the Dragon 2x a year and does a TON of other car events. I can understand why you would want to enjoy the crap out of your cars now, but I am sure that there are a small group of folks holding on to theirs for the future. They didn't make too many of our cars - less that 80k in the entire production run. It makes them special to us - there are less that 2k of the SRT that got hit. I know that there weren't a lot of 7th Gen Impala SS cars but according to Chevrolet they aren't seen as true SS cars, more a trim level. I got this quote from Wikikpedia :

The entire B/D-body line, consisting of the Chevrolet Caprice, Impala SS, Buick Roadmaster and Cadillac Fleetwood, was discontinued by General Motors, as GM wanted more assembly lines to be able to produce more profitable SUVs. Another fact was that the Caprice was the only B-body with a market share since fleet sales to law enforcement outnumbered sales of all other B-bodies. Additionally the Impala SS is not acknowledged as 'Impala SS' on owners' title or bill of sale. Therefore this version does not fall into a generation status as does the previous and newer models. Until further research is done and can be justified by General Motors, this Impala SS is merely a top of the line high-performance version of the 1991–1996 Chevrolet Caprice.

You should enjoy your cars - race the crap out of them, mod them within an inch of their lives, razz your other forum boys until they want to slash their wrists, drive those sleds into the ground until the wheels fall off - have at it. Just don't criticize us because we appreciate our cars in a different way. As far as "waxers" being down the car ladder - well I guess that just depends on who you are. The Pebble Beach group of waxers might look at you guys as unwashed heathens who just learned how to tie your shoes without instruction. Autocross, open wheel and pretty much the entire non-American world would probably look on you as mechanics instead of drivers - totally good with putting a ton of HP in a car that goes in a straight line, but that doesn't make fast drivers.

Me, I think that you guys are probably just super defensive & sick of your cars being called taxi cabs and bloated and a Caprice with a body kit. I might be a little pissed off too if I were you guys. That being said - go enjoy them, have a great time. Just know that we respect all people who love their cars here and we love to see the results of those efforts. Its really too bad that all the XF crew at Woodward didn't really get to see what makes your cars cool because of the overall attitude being thrown their way......

Kim,

I agree 100%. Molly and I spend a majority of our free time at race events, car shows, autoXing, etc. and put more time and money into our cars than 99% of the population - we are not waxers, I have helped build cars and customized more than I can count.

Maybe I am delicate - because I don't like drunk rednecks hitting on my girlfriend. Say it was in fun or just razzing - **** that. I have never encountered another 'car club' like yours and I hope I never have to again.

How many times did the cops come visit your group over the weekend?

Hey guys, I would just like to say hi. I have been lurking for a while and found out about Woodward. I got a chance to swing by Friday night and meet some of the XF guys. They seem like a great crew. I also had a chance to head over to Woodward and participate in the cruise although I was in my 300.

I will say though that I think Kim is spot on. Although I enjoyed sharing my enthusiasm with other car guys, I found it very uncomfortable to share a parking lot with the Impala gang. I found them to be very rude, disruptive and inconsidrdate of other people at the hotel. My guess would be that most of them are of age to operate a motor vehicle but that is debatable, especially with someone who mounts a car. What type of person can be so offensive that they use the name Cracka *** Crackuh? That is disgusting if you ask me.

I would like to participate more in Woodward next year but if possible, could the XF guys get a hotel as far away from the Impala people? I know they claim to be car enthusiasts, but to me they are a bunch of socially inept morAns.

Get with the times guys. Your cars are out dated, god awful ugly, slow and let's face it, they are fairly ghetto as well. I know we don't drive the fanciest cars on the block but hey, at least ours have some class. Im not embarrassed to park my car in the driveway at night.

Either way, it was good meeting some of you. Ciao

Well, I like the spunk. Finally some CFers who can use the keyboard and send some zings back.

First of all, please don't use Wiki for anything. I don't think you would like a lot of the comments about your cars on there either.

"The Crossfire's fastback roof and broad rear fenders made for a rear end design that prompted automotive journalists to describe the new car's resemblance to American Motor's 1965-1967 Marlin" Ouch. An AMC reference.

"The sales of the Crossfire have been slow..." - We sold more Impala SS's in the 3 year run than you did in a 5 year run. If you add in Caprices, Caddy's, and Buicks it was a landslide. Your car was cancelled due to poor sales. Our car was cancelled due to corporate greed (GM could make more money building SUV's in the Arlington, TX plant so they dropped the line).

Also, sales for the CF went downhill HARD after the first year, nearly none were sold the last 2 years. What does that say? The Impala SS sold more and more each year, proving it's selling power.

I mean, these numbers are just plain embarrassing:
Year............2003.....2004....2005.....2006....2007
Production....35,700...28,000...12,500...4,805...2,000

It looks like they couldn't give them away at the end. Our last year was the highest production as many ripped GM for killing a good selling model and people hustled out to buy one before this instant collectors item was gone. INSTANT. COLLECTORS. ITEM.

As far as it being a glorified Caprice. LOL. Yeah we mostly hated the 91-93 Caprices too. Ugly, upside down bathtubs for sure. Cop cars and taxi cabs. I wouldn't be caught dead in one. However they were dead ***** reliable and sturdy as hell, as you can see by all the taxi's and cop cars still on the road.

The fact is the 94 SS changed the way 4 door cars are made. It was monochrome (blacked out), Vette engined, had the biggest wheels and tires on any production car in the world (besides the Vette), and handled great.

Anyone above who denies that isn't putting it in perspective. The SS was a beast compared to anything available at the time. Many many articles written about the car praising the return of Detroit muscle. So please, bark up another tree regarding it being 'slow' because back in 1994 it was the king. Best looking sedan out there and for half the price it kept up with or exceeded a BMW 7-series car in every test. Trust me, I saved all the articles. It was heralded, not a limp effort like the CF's.

So comparing our rave-review car to your crushingly disappointing car is a bit silly. You might not like it, but you can't disprove it.

As far as our parking lot antics, I was out there every single night and NOTHING would have been said if your forum members hadn't starting posting barbs in this thread, parked under the overhang in the rain like King Tut, and parked across 2 spots in a packed parking lot until they were shamed into moving.

As far as family, we are the same but way deeper. This goes back to 1994. I've been to more funerals than I care to from this community.

For the record..I can own any car I like, I stick with Chevy's. Nothing I like more than embarrassing a snob in a BMW or Mercedes with my lowly Chevy. I do like Mopar and Ford too, all American muscle. You saw above what I own. I like kicking Euro/Jap *** with my Chevy.

I will tell you this...our group used to be like yours in one way. We had money (it cost more in scale to buy a new Impala SS in 1994, or at least the same, as buying a CF) and we had a lot of people with big bucks in the community. Now, our cars are 15+ years old and some on 3rd or 4th owners. At the bottom of the curve for resale value too (although SS's are still worth more than your cars). So we get a lot of young kids getting into the hobby through the older cop cars and taxis. So the parking lot crowd is definitely changing. It happens. Not a ton of us left here from the beginning but I still will hang with these people any day of the week over the jerks most other car clubs.

Still, we've never acted like that: Taking up 2 spots, thinking their cars are superior, blocking a hotel entrance, and talking trash on the internet. You guys acted like the Porsche/Vette guys (without the cars to back it up).

Basically the CFers poor behavior led to the Impala guys getting their Irish up. I notice no one has accepted any responsibility for your boorish behavior. If we acted badly it was in response to you acting badly, even though your offenses are far worse than people talking trash. Two wrongs don't make a right, but like my brother used to say "He started it!"

You seem like a nice person, but real car guys buy cars that show AND go. Cars that look pretty but can't get out of their own way are an abomination. Which, pretty much, is why great looking cars like yours, and the T-Birds, and even the "Impala killer" Mercury Marauders came and went and the Impala SS remains legend both with collectors and enthusiasts.

BTW, my taxi will outrun, outcorner, outhandle, and outsell 99% of the cars in your CF world. Also, CrissCrossFire, nice try morAn. Hahahahaha.

Also, I am NOT referring the CF guys who made their cars badass. That AMG setup was outstanding. Bravo. I'm talking about the people that think that pretty pile of slow junk is fine with more chrome pieces. SSee you next year.

Bill

PS - just saw Wolfie's response. He's very agitated. LOL

Hello Pot, Kettle's calling... You think Cracka A$$ Cracka is disgusting? What about your fellow XF'er named Beaner? Gimme an effing break. You guys/gals are wound up way too tight. MIXFire, Beaner, onehundred80 seems to have a good head on their shoulders.... know good humor and aren't offended by such silly things. Have you noticed that we don't take offense to being called rednecks (I'm far from one), cars called taxi cabs (not mine), ghetto (not me either)... meh, who cares.

Live a little.

A few final thoughts...since I'm bored at work and stuck on this conference call. Zzzzzzz....

1. We've never had run-ins with any other club. As a matter of fact we get along very well with every club. Not sure where you are getting this info from.

2. My title says Impala SS, always has. Some insurance companies didn't know how to decode the VIN and some insurance cars said Caprice in the early runs.

3. Not defensive, we call OURSELVES way worse. As a matter of fact, we pride ourselves on taking a huge car and making it outrun, outhandle, outcorner most cars out there. Maybe you missed our comments about running the road course at Waterford. And most don't refer to the SS's as looking like cop cars or taxi's, the 'trim level' made it look much better.

And, as stated, the CFers started the boorish behavior. Own up to it.

Bk & Wolfie are on to something here. I am in total agreement. I might own one of those so called "taxicabs", wait I own 6 or is that 8, and I am proud to stay that they are all paid for, have lowest dollar amount into them yearly for maintenance, (includes my 200k plus daily driver), and I get over 20mpg drving this car on the highway @ 85 mph. And we are talking about 1994 automotive technology at its finest. Now if only my 2006 vehicle would treat me this way I would be happy.

Ok so I understand the whole trim package thing, whatever floats your god awful boat, but what the heck is up with the wagon? That thing is so hideous! I would be embarrassed to be caught driving one let alone be courted off to a grave sight in one.

You have to be absolutely and utterly tasteless to voluntarily choose to own a car as such. I would gladly take my 16 second Crossfire over that retarded whale on wheels anyday, especially when someone thinks its cool to put a 3 foot foam surfboard on the roof rack. Oh yea, I bet the girls flock when they see that beach cruiser roll up in the sand. Hopefully they are strong enough girls to push it back out.

I hope your hearst is an old wagon. 16 second cross-fire? The big boats your are referring about do 15 seconds flat in stock trim & on stock engine tune. Again we are talking about the late 90's automotive technology.
