Red face roadster review...found on a bmw website...

~ thought i would share...

"My car is in the shop and they gave me a crossfire roadster. Here's my review.

The exterior, great looking, with the top down! With the top up its bleh! The interior is super-cheap, plastic every where! It took me about 15 min to figure out how to change the side mirrors because its a little **** in the center console that moves side to side and them up and down, very strange I thought. Next the roof. It was a little difficult for me to figure out how to put the top down. You unlock the top and then i thought you press the button that says top down, but there's another step that i had no clue of. You had to press the roof up after you unlocked it. Maybe its not weird but i don't believe the 3 series vert had that (correct me if i'm wrong i never owned one, but a friend of mines mother has it and it doesn't seem that she has to do that.) With the top up its near impossible to see to your sides or behind you.
The engine is a deep growl, very nice sound, and a quick little engine for that size car. 6 cyl 3.2L 215 hp 229 torque. overall i think its a nice car, but couldn't see myself driving it every day, mostly just a weekend car, but for the price tag of $32k+ its not worth it."

This is my first post and I'll probably hear about it. I bet if I got into a BMW I wouldn't know where everything was either! Complain to the dealer that gave him a car and didn't explain anything. And bite me if you don't like my car. If that is a picture of the car he was talking about he probably just convinced a number of BMW drivers to switch!

Just my 2 cents.

Mark

It's just a case of someone not owning that car and finding something bad to say about it. A few of my corvette friends (I owned one before the crossfire), think the Crossfire is inferior. But there are also a few that know about the car's heritage and give me a thumbs up for my choice. Unless you actually own it for a while, people should keep their comments in a tin can and bury it out in the backyard...

GOSH !!! I didn't know I had such an inferior vehicle, I guess I'll just try to keep the smile wiped off my face while I'm in it.

Boy, aren't we are a sensitive bunch here? If someone doesn't fall all over the Crossfire, drool over it, and give it rave reviews, look out.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and he gave his in his BMW forum, not ours. As a non-Crossfire owner who does not have a "passion" for the car as we have, I think it was a fair review and he was not out to rag on the Crossfire. I agree the car looks way better with the top down (which IMO isn't the best to open and close) and the interior is rather cheap with way too much plastic.

Overall said it was a nice car, did he not?

One question... why does the MB heritage of the Crossfire "always" have to be brought up in order to justify the car to other car enthusiasts? It seems that way too many owners are too sensitive as to what others think and are ashamed of the Chrysler badging.

Lighten up folks, everyone is not going to go nuts over the Crossfire. Take comments and reviews in stride, and just enjoy your ride...

I plead guilty here. I question the intellect of anyone that doesn't love Two Harleys, I'm ashamed to admit it. However, and this shows my lack of intellect...I bought my Roadster DESPITE it's MB heritage. In fact, I was a bit disappointed that Chrysler didn't have enough confidence in its own North American build teams to make it themselves. I totally respect the German thing...but as a proud American I know we are more than capable...we just don't do it. We do have design down to a science...you are aware that Toyota's design studio is in Torrance, California...aren't you? And IMHO, Chrysler has the best looking cars right now. Look at the success of the Sebring, the PT Cruiser, the Caravan is a legend, the Dodge Magnum (awesome...and bringing the wagon style back in style), the only car that I think was a total mistake...and I am far outnumbered on this one...the 300 looks like someone took a nice car, rammed it into a wall, then backed up and did the same to the rear, then the designers smoothed the wrinkles and put a hot V8 Hemi in it. It is more Mercedes looking than Mercedes, these days. Again folks...just my opinion. The car mags gave it top honors...go figure. My other car is a 300M, a very nice replacement for my Eagle Vision. I grew up a Ford man, and my wife converted me...the only car she would let me buy here was the Sebring Convertible...which I did for our 25th.

It's funny, I didn't take much offence to what the BMW driver said either. It's obvious he wasn't familiar with the car, and he was just voicing his opinion that's all.
I know it's all a matter of taste, but personally I don't feel the XF roadster looks that bad with the top up. Most all roadsters look better with their top down, that's a given. But I think the XF looks far better than the Corvette does with its top up. Even better than my Miata (sorry Cissy) also.
Markr6754, you're not alone when it comes to the Chrysler 300. IMO, It's one of the few cars that the factory "Pimps Your Ride" for you at no extra cost.
Also, I fully understand the reasoning behind owning 2 Harleys. It never hurts to have a spare (just kidding).
My only real concern about the BMW driver that posted his opinions on the BMW forum is this. If it took him 15 minutes to figure out where the outside rearview mirror adjusters were, then I hope his dealer never gives him a SAAB as a loner.

Those hard to figure out controls are the same controls, (in the same location), that are in my wife's E320 Sport. One of the great advantages of the Xfire for us is that we didn't have to re-learn all the controls.

It all just depends on what you're used to. I do wish I could have the birdseye maple that's in her car.

And if Bimmers are the ideal, let's hear about that user friendly iDrive! Not!

Why do you think a Saab would be anymore confusing than the Crossfire?

Ashonfire,

Saabs used to have the ignition on the floor in between the front seats. Don't know if they still do.

Yes, even after GM bought them out. They seemed to have retained some of their heritage. The key is still between the seats on the floor and the window lift buttons are there as well. They fall easily at hand there.

I was a proud owner of a 900S sedan. I really loved it. It was no more quirky than the XFire.

My ex got it when we divorced and I took the M-B 240D. I got the better deal. The tranny in the Saab started crapping out. Kaching! $$$$ OMG! She finally dumped it.

I recalled it was very comfortable, handled well and once it was spooled up on the highway it would really start pouring on the speed. Certainly not terribly fast off the line but adequate.

Mike, I agree with you about the vinyl top on the Miata. Miata does look way better with the top down. Now, the hard top is another matter. Miatas look great with the hard top on. See?

YIKES!!! BIG picture...sorry
