I'm not 100% sure but my two Benz sedans "adjust" to how I drive. I believe the Xfire does the same.

This car is a Benz and as such the computer will adjust to respond to your driving style. Especially the automatic trans.
Even if it were not so, driving the cars gently, keeping the revs below 4000 means that if you ever let loose and get on it, you are asking for trouble. It's old school thinking but I believe it.

I broke mine in gradually running the revs up to red line at least once every 100 miles or so. And although the experts say you don't have to do it any more, I changed the "break in " oil at 1000 miles. First time it cost me 100 bucks to change my oil but no way I'm screwing this baby up.

And now with confidence, I run thru the gears HARD and work the car like a redheaded step child. Laughing the whole time.

You have a much better attitude than my husband, lol. He's always telling me I drive too fast.

Thanks SilverFox for the answer. So going by that, one would think that the harder you drive, the more often you kick in the supercharger, and the more often the IC pump has to operate. Thus causing it to wear out quicker.
But since the IC pump seems to go bad at various times, (on cars with under 5k, and on cars over 20k) how often the pump operates doesn't seem to be the issue.
When the pump quits working, has anybody ever taken one apart to see what it was that made it fail? Probably not because it's always under warranty. But has any dealer ever told you what actually caused it to fail?
Did the motor just burn up?
Did a bearing go bad?
Was it a faulty sensor?
They do make a "water pump lubricant" for standard water pumps that you simply add to your antifreez. Would this be something that might possibly help prevent IC pump failure?
Remember guys, I'm an NA driver, and I really have no experience with the AMG engines at all. So everything I just posted is pure speculation on my part.
I'd just like to see if we (as forum members) can put our collective heads together and work out what few problems the Crossfire has between us. Because Lord knows there is no R&D going on at Chrysler any more (as if there ever was) on our cars. I mean let's face it, we're pretty much on our own when it comes to keeping these cars on the road in the future.
You may think that just because you have an extended, or Lifetime warranty that you really don't have anything to worry about, but such is not the case.
I've found out recently that even though a dealer may have an excellent technician working on your car, Chrysler and or Mercedes are of little help when it come to diagnosing the problem. Because in some areas they have very little info about our cars, and what info they do supply, isn't always accurate.
I mean for crying out loud, 5 years after the fact, Mercedes dealers are still refusing to recognize that the Crossfire is essentially a Mercedes, and if a Chrysler tech calls them for help, they turn their noses up and point out that the XF is no Mercedes.

I guess one could argue that by running the car harder coolant temps would elevate. Heat is an enemy of just about everything out there so when the pump is pushing hot water vs warm water life could be shortened perhaps?

Edit: I just checked Johnson's site out and noticed that the operating temp max's out a 212ºf for the CM30. Anyone out there with a coolant temp gauge on their heat exchanger care to share their readings?

I think that if there were more cameras and as many speed traps in Miami as there were in Ohio I would have to hire a chauffer and an attorney full time. Tonight on my way home from playing golf in a Pro-am with my clubs sitting in the front seat and cruising at 90ish, I came up on a yellow roadster S2000. This was on the Sawgrass an eight lane extention of I 75.

As I was passing him he looked over at me as if to say you can't pass me. I continued at the same speed and this young kid decided he was going to keep up with me and then pass me. There were a couple of cars in front of him so he couldn't pass me. I stayed in the right lane and I think he thought that he was going to show the older guy, me, that he had a fast car. Other then a larger exhaust I had no idea what kind of mods he had on the car.

As he was coming up on me I increased my speed slightly and he moved to the center lane and floored his little s2000. I let him get even with me and the kid in me just couldn't resist and I floored the SRT. I would have liked to have seen his mouth drop as I just opened up the distance between us. I took the car up to 135-140 then slowed back down to 85/90 and cruising speed. Low and behold there he was again. Dejavu. This time I only went up to 125 just to prove a point to him that he did not have enough car to keep up or stay with the SRT at that speed. I love that warp speed button under the pedal. Slight perma-grin

Can't wait till the 181 pulley parts get here. I sure am glad I have a clean driving record, cause the first time I get a speeding ticket, it is going to be ugly. Oh, by the way I did use my blinkers whenever I changed lanes, which wasn't very often at 120 plus. I am not sure I could have heard the radar detector at 140 in the roadster with the top up. Not that it would have helped.

The XF runs so smooooooth at high speeds.

I drive my car pretty gently on a daily basis, but it sees it fair share of back road hoonage and track time. Mine is creeping up on 27,000 miles and no Pump failure yet. I'm ordering a Johnson Pump soon just to be sure though.

I've never had the car over about 110, but I get there fast.

Yup Randy,
These cars can get you in a lot of Trouble! My first Speeding ticket in over thirty years & my First Accident, since my Ducati vs Truck in 1963!
(Both in the last two months )
