I don't see us needing a stronger transmission. A torque converter for the racers, yes. Modified TCM's, yes. If our trans is the same as the LX's then several companies already make higher stall torque converters. And if the rear end is the same, different gears have recently become available.
It just seems to me that if the tranny doesn't protest until a 4200 lb. car gets into the low 11's then we should be fine until we start seeing mid 10's in our Xfires.

Good point, I'm just wondering how interchangeable our parts are with theirs.

These are supposed to be good.

Some people like the Pro Torque.

Take a look at what our trans can handle. You can hear it slipping but it's not broken yet.

That thread on the LX forums about IPT sure is interesting. Read the whole thing...holy cow...

I might consider a new high stall torque converter some day if it wouldnt affect me driving the car around town. This car is too fun to drive to just use it at the track..

Can our axles handle higher rpm launches?

There's only one way to find out.

It's hard to know. The LX's start snapping with drag radials and low 12's - high 11's. But they weigh a whole lot more. The transmission if not the same, is variant of the same. I would guess it would take a tune that completely does away with torque management, drag radials and a bit of bad luck. If the axles are more or less the same strength, I think we have to get a lot faster to equal the stresses that the added weight of the LX's and higher torque at launch of the 5.7 or 6.1. But I'm just guessing. We will know when the first one breaks. But based on the lack of failures in the LX's, the speeds they are running and their weight, we have still have a rather large safety margin.

But again, I'm just guessing.

Just The Valve-body Upgrade Alone Would Likely Be More Effective Than A Sprint-booster

well, this has been a good read for an old guy...I ran a 71 big block Camaro in 1973 in a stock gas class...I was sold on B&M Auto while everyone else was still using 4-speeds....I exchanged my core trany for a B&M, valve body, torgue converter, 3500 stall...coupled w/ a 373 rear end...I could have went higher, like 4.11 but this was my daily driver...being an old muscle car guy, I was always wondering if I could just get this setup in my XF...what a 1/4 miler this would be...keep lookin' you are on the right track....
