Default Ready to mod, what should be the first 4?

Just wanted everyones opinion on what should be the first 4 mods. I'm ready to go faster! A CAI, and maybe a s/c pulley, how did you do it?

I'm no super auto dude but after much reading from guys that know and having limited monies here's what I did.

1. Johnson pump and new, more effecient heat exchanger. Read Waldigs threads on this.

2. CAI. I got the NeedsWings CAI and am very happy with installation, look and performance.

3. Code3 super charger pully. Its more costly than items 1 or 2 individually but when done is VERY easy to install and makes a huge difference.

4. My last will be a custom ECU tune AFTER all of the physical mods are done. This way the tune will match air flow and all the items that are specific to your mods.

I'm here to tell you be prepared........ once you start, it will be tougher that quiting smoking or thinking of sex to stop modding!!!

Good luck

I never thought of the pump first or H/E. Thanks for your reply.

This is that path I'm taking:

1) Needswings CAI (installed)
2) 178 ASP Crank Pulley
3) Needswings Manifolds
4) Tune (not sure which to go with yet- though I do want a custom dyno tune if possible)

The other things I know will need upgrading are the pump and heat exchanger. I heard Rob is working on a kick-**** HE, I'll hold off for that one!

My goal is 12.1-12.3 by Spring time.

The reason I did that first was because I wanted the system to be as capable as possible of handling the next mods I did. Also I got a good deal on a "used" but never used pump and I/H from a forum member.

If you have the paitence and are limited on funds, look around in the parts for sale area and you can find some good deals. Of course new is fastest and the vendors love it so I can't knock that route either.

Good luck

The heat exchanger is just a waste of money in my opinion. The stock one is just fine unless you insist on running one of the larger pulleys which you will not see any better times at the track unless you add alcohol injection. If you add the alcohol injection then you still do not need the heat exchanger because the alcohol injection will cool the intake air a hell of a lot more than the heat exchanger would.

There are people on here that spent 2 or 3 times the money on mods yet they do not run any faster times than the guys that spent a lot less.

Just do your research on here, compare the track times and see what works for you.

The lightning pump ($75) or the johnson pump ($175+) are a mod you really should invest in since the stock pumps seem to have a huge failure rate.

Not in this order:

1) Custom SRT6 badges - (many choices on this one)

2) Biggest Stereo Bang-for-the-Buck Mod

3) Rear Hatch Rattle

4) Cup Holder - Storage Bin Swap

Enjoy your ride!!

My approach is in my sign, which is in order of install with corresponding 1/8 time. I had the cooling mods done last and noticed two things. First is an increase in boost; I reached 20psi but reliably touching19psi and holding strong in the upper 18psi range. Second is the retarding of heat; my first pass at the track prior to cooling was usually my best run, with all proceeding runs being worse. With the cooling mods, my first run may be the best and I could run it consistently all day.

Cooling is a necessity if going with a 185 or a stacked pulley, a benefit if going with the 181 and optional if going with a 178 or SC pulley.

Let us know which way you go; I’m always interested in other 6 setups.

I am thinking s/c pulley and need wings intake. Not sure if the H/E is worth it with that set up. Any thoughts?

I have to agree with this one. That is basically my setup. You will be in the 11's. Isn't ATCO in Jersey? Your definately in 11's there. Heck I'm in AZ the hottest state in the country and I didn't waste my money on cooling mods. For roundy round racing you will need them, so depends on what your after. Fast for short periods, or fast for long part killing time periods? Yes NW has a monster of a HE waiting for you.

I also have to agree with these. When I turn it into a daily driver these will be done in the first week. 1)Already have the badges but not installed. 2)Already have caps for stereo mod just need to do it. 3)No hatch rattle yet. 4) No drinks in car.

I think this set has been replicated a few times. Needswings CAI, ECU Tune(I have LET but I bet Inmotion is just as good), Code 3 Pulley and Johnson Pump. Don't need the pump for performance....but it will go out sooner or later. This should net you a 12.2 on street tires after you get the launch down!

What mods must you "un-do" to turn it into a daily driver?

Is your SRT6 even street legal?

IMO:
1. NeedsWings CAI
2. Crank pulley (ASP, LET, etc.)
3. NeedsWings intake manifolds
4. Tune

I just have 1 and 2 and they make a big difference.
Good luck.

Just one. 100 octane tune. I only have access at my track to 100 octane. The east side of town has a few stations that carry it, but on my side not any at the pump. So before I leave track I get enough if I'm driving during the week. I still have to leave enough to get back to the track. I'll be going back to the 93 tune which I still had 12.0's with. Even with the 93 tune I still ran 100 octane fuel. The 100 tune is definately good for 11.7's in great DA.

The rest are daily driver mods, even the dr's if you don't mind wearing them out quicker. Right now it's more of a toy than a driver. I still hate taking it out risking a ding or glass chip. You wouldn't think I baby the car the way I track it. LOL.

My daily driver for the winter is a 68' Shortbed Chevy.
