if you loosen up the nut, cant you take off the entire assembly? and then somehow remove the stud? or is that not an option? my tensioner pulley's torx stud has a little grip left and isnt totally stripped so can probalby handle a little bit more, but not enough to put the belt back over with the 185

 

the nut only removes the pulley. behind the idler pulley and below are 2 more torxes that have to be removed to get the tensioner off the front of the engine. the tensioner spring loaded section is behind the rear of the torx bolt and i dont see any way to get the stud out to replace it

 

i just got off the phone with the benz dealer, the tensioner assembly lists at $305 and there is stock in the USA on them. we can get them a little cheaper with our discount but by the time we ship it to you it may be more beneficial to get it locally quicker.

 

Goodyear replacement part # 49262 is about $140 and has updated the adjuster to remove the E10 and replace with a standard fitting.

I just tried to take that stud out of my old tensioner and no luck. I even used a 3 foot breaker bar. I dont know what they used to put it in, but I felt like I was going to break it trying to get it out. The only good thing about the $197 bolt is that it comes with a tensioner and new pulley!

true true......that is good news, though then you still have an extra pulley when you get the pulley saver kit and you still ended up purchasing what is to be a $197 stud lol.

parts.com has the tensioner for 197 + shipping. cheapest i found so far but its the oem replacement. some have an inferior pulley and spring setup

jturkel im not sure but i dont believe the tensioner comes with the pulley. its listed separatley in the parts.com catalog. im under the impression the tensioner is 197$ by itself. pulley is extra like 20$

 

well if you go this route, please to a DIY/write-up. it seems most of us are unfamiliar with removing the tensioner pulley on this car lol.

General Info

 

The replacement of the tensioner is VERY easy. Two bolts. I did mine several months ago, and the new tensioner came with a new pulley installed. I got it through Tracy Bryan here on the forum.

 

I have a question on this pulley saver kit - is the pulley assembly "dual" bearing?

 

its not hard at all. remove belt. then the idler pulley. then the 2 bolts that hold the tensioner on. it comes off as a complete assy.
im going to check out the goodyear part at my local goodyear dealer tommorrow and see if its a viable part

tried all the big 3 parts stores. all they have is a dayco pulley which isnt the right type. still looking!

Nope. Not using the torx at all.
I tighten the "lock" nut harder against the pulley and then use the nut instead of the torx stud to release the belt tension.

 

I'm doing the same thing Tighed is to remove my belt and it works like a charm. I found that positioning the wrench so your pushing across to release the belt helps it from not loosening up, if you push down it tends to loosen every time. I used it to install the Tighed belt wrap kit coupled with my smaller supercharger pulley and 178 set up and it worked quite well so it should be able to work fine with the 185 install also.
