Default Rebuilt rearend failure.

Well my hopes of a cheaper aftermarket alternative with Dahmer Powertrains was a let down. From what I saw today it appears like they used a cheap bearing. The picture shows the bearing failure on the pinion. The rings and spiders gears look fine so this is unlreated to stock rearend failures. The pictures I took show the bearing on the pinion.

I'm waiting for the final word on what to be done. If a factory unit will be put in or perhaps another rebuild from another company or if Dahmer can produce a unti that wont fail at high speeds...

here's what it should look like

This is on the pinion where it siezed to the shaft.

Do you know anything about the preload on that bearing. Good bearings can go bad from that quickly. Woody

what woody said

if a new crush sleeve wasnt used, or if the pinion was over tightened it would over crush the sleeve, throwing off gear mesh and putting added stress on the bearing, which would ultimately cause the failure seen here

Yep thats what the tech told me that tore it down. But would this come from Dahmer rebuilding it or during install at the shop? Would like to know who screwed it up this is my first RWD car.

most likely they used your old yoke they took the smaller one off the rebuilt unit and put yours on because most do not come with srt yoke. .

Whoever put the yoke onto the pinion is most likely the culprit. So I'd say your rebuilder jacked it up, not the installer.

I just got a new ,,,NEW,, diff, form the dealer and it came with instructions to use the yoke from the car as the srt6 yoke is backordered. so the mech removed mine and put it on the new rear, with a new washer. jim
