*Needed* 20 to Pre-order Wavetrac LSD for SLK32/SRT-6
[quote= tom Well, another chapter in the on-going saga of my differential.
I got my diff back from Unitrax on Friday. I dropped it off at the shop and they called me today that it was ready. I went by on the way home from work, and took it for a test drive. It had rain about 10 minutes before, and the streets were slick. DAMN that back end just loves to come out!
So I went over to the nearby highway and took it up to speed to see if I was getting any gear whine or if I could detect any issues. At about 75mph I started getting a major vibration from the back. It got worse as I sped up. By 85mph it was severe enough that I could even feel it in the steering wheel (but it was definitely coming from the back).
So it went back to the shop. It might be my tires. They needed replaced before I did the Wavetrac, but I don't remember any major vibration. Hmmm...
Tomorrow after work, I'll take up my old stock rims with the old stock tires on them and we'll mount them up, just to see if it is the tires or not. I hope it's just tires. I can't imagine what it could be if it isn't, but I know that it will be expensive. Ugh.

Tom mine did the same thing on rear #2,,,if the springs did not seat then you will get a vibration that will scare you it is so bad,, they need to pop the spring into place ,,,it will then be fine. poped mine in with a pry bar. jim

Thanks guys!
As it turns out, it is OK. I took my other wheels and tires up to the shop today and we swapped them out. It was probably the tires... because now it is fine - smooth as glass!
Although, Jim, you may be spot on... when he jacked the car up, he put the floor jack under the diff, which lifted the whole rear end off the ground, and the springs might have set once the load was off.
Either way, it's in good shape now. Next on the list is to get it 4-wheel aligned. The method they used to get the diff out allows for misalignment after reinstall.
I'm really hoping to get it done this week so I can hit the track on Friday or Saturday. I think this is the last weekend that the track will be open until spring.
Cross your fingers!

By the way:
How much diff fluid goes in the diff?
The guys at the shop weren't sure, so they filled it up. From the two bottles of fluid I got from Rob, they used up one and about 1/4 of the second. I didn't think there'd be that much left over.
Anyone know for sure? I don't want to hit the track with it not filled right.

You fill it until it runs out the fill hole! Mine took the same amount as yours. One bottle and part of another.

Well, I got the Crossfire back from a 4 wheel alignment last night. It's amazing, the car is so much better behaved now! I don't know how badly the rear-end was out of alignment before the diff, but it was way out after. The front end was way out too. But its all good now.
Now I think I'm ready to head to the track this weekend. Pray for good weather! It's been raining here for the last week or so.

Well, nothin worth doin is easy, apparently. I went to race at Quaker City Raceway today, but I got there and it was closed! Thirty web site said it was test and tune today. But evidently the track owner and the manager got in a big arguement last weekend and the owner said F it! And closed the track for the year!
So I drove an hour further to Thompson Raceway, and no sooner than I get my slicks put on, they stop test and tune for a gamblers race. So I get to sit and watch for an hour or so...
But on the good side, the DA is negative. Woohoo! I hope I can get some traction. Wish me luck.

It was worth the wait! My first run - in over a year and a half - was a new personal best!
12.2438 @ 115.6
Hell yeah!
And I had total buck fever on the line. I didn't even launch right. My 60' was a 1.79.
If I can concentrate and lauch right, I might break into those illusive 11st.

I marvel at all the low 12's and high 11's being posted. My best 60' is 2.x. Learn me how to drag race...somebody! Here's hoping the next run is even faster.

Congrats Tom, glad you got the SRT 6 back up and running sweet. It sure was an ordeal for you but I bet that grin is on your face again now. Good luck going for the 11's.
its funny i dont feel the wavetrac helping me at all at the track. on the dragon and such roads its extremely noticeable. but at the track my 60 ft times didnt change much . now the peace of mind i wont trash the diff during burnouts is priceless. weather , dr's getting big heat and better launches are whats getting me in the low 12's. strangly my trap times are climbing like crazy but low et is still elusive but slowly coming down ie: 12.1 @ 114 p/b and 12.2 @ 120 is the mph best!
that 120 is great....and that wavetrac is helping you whether you believe it or not....get all the HP you are now making with an open diff, and you wouldn't be seeing those times you are makin' now....truck driver...lol... you are tick away from those 11's and so is Tom now...you both keep practicing those launches, and you will be there...
IN fact Steve...I would fill your gas tank next time out....just for the hell of it...your little light car might need some help hookin' up....can't hurt....good luck...

Well, the track was a total zoo yesterday - a bazillion people out there - probably because it was good weather and the last one or two races for the season.
I only got two runs. My first had me grinin' from ear to ear.
It was about 3 hours until the second pass, and I knew I wouldn't get another. So I launched very aggressively. In fact, too aggressively! I spun out and started going sideways. I had to let off the throttle and get it back under control then hit it again. That cost me big time. My 60' was a 2.0 and I ended up with a 13.3 ET. That was a waste of time - sort of - I guess I learned the wavetrack may help a little, but it certainly loves to throw the car sideways.
They're running again next weekend, but friends of mine are having their son christened. And since I'm the godfather, I guess I have to be there. Dag nab it! Why do they have to have kids when I'm trying to race! LOL
There probably won't be anymore open tracks up north here until spring - April-ish.
Oh well. I'm just happy the car is running better and race-ready.
I said it on Facebook, but I'll say it again here:
BIG thanks go out to Rob @ NeedsWings and all the other folks here that helped me get my car back into racing shape.

That sideways stuff is our short wheelbase. My best time, slow as it was, was with 3/4 tank of gas and the floor jack in the back. (12.7 at 113 ... so embarrassed) But being Aero Blue you and I look better at 13 than all the rest, no matter what times they managed.
