Does anyone know how much that should cost? They say they've never done bearings on this model of diff, so they couldn't tell me how much it would be without doing some research.

I got mine from an online Chrysler dealer and if memory serves me correctly they were $80 something each side for the bearing and race. I'll find you the part numbers later (don't have the boxes nearby) so you can find them cheaper than what I found.

Thanks Les!
I was just looking for a ball-park so I know what's-what when they call back.
I just talked to Unitrax and they're replacing all the bearings for $187, which sounds about right considering the prices you gave, Les.
The guy also said that my cups were OK, and he recommended keeping them. I have _no_idea_ what the "cups" are. But if Unitrax says they're OK, I'm gonna take their word for it.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck with the bearing Tom. At least you did not try to rush it and have the car for the Dragon. Hoping to see it next year.

My differential is still singing. I bought the bearings but still haven't had them installed. I'm a little peeved at the shop that did the install but they are the go to guys for GTR's, EVO's, Suby's etc. They've already pulled the motor out of a 2012 GTR and upgraded just about everything. A 2011 had an upgraded transmission and clutch installed without issues. They are the best but WTF happened on my easy wavetrac install? They say it's the bearings. I bought new ones. I guess I need to talk to them and get r done. My diff was almost dry BTW.

Perhaps you'll feel better after what I'm about to say. I was told if the ring to pinion clearances were off it would break the first time down the 1/4 mile. I made 20 passes and have run a few track days. So it seems to be the bearings. I'd hate to replace them and still have noise. Was your differential low on oil like mine?

Dang! Do you think two of 20 are defective? My car is a track toy so if it's doesn't break I can deal with it. Well, an almost perfect track toy .... the paint job is spectacular. Too bad they broke a few trim pieces .... and all the clips. I find the engagement of my LSD a little strange. I can feel a pulsing from back there. How about you?

les you mean your wavetrac was low? i filled mine to spec with the synthetic fluid and havent checked it since. no way i know of to check other than stivk your finger in the drain hole. i thought you were talking low fluid on the oem unit
No, the oem was real low and the shop thought the bearings were marginal at best. They tried to source the bearings locally and couldn't so they put it back together with the original bearings. They filled it with ENOS oil after calling Unitrax to find out if it was approved. I would have installed it myself but if the backlash was incorrect I wouldn't know how to correct it so I left it to "experts". When I asked they pretty much told me the install was idiot proof. Take it apart, put it together and have fun. My diff is loud. It must be the bearings .........
Les
Edit: Synthetic? Oh man, drain that stuff and put in what they recommend. Didn't you read the approved fluids?

So... does anyone know what these cups they were talking about are?

Tom, I hope they weren't referring to the "races" for the bearings...they should be replaced too. As for LES/Steve, your backlash is critical. Les, I would have them check the backlash and install new bearings...same for you Steve, I'm afraid.. If you want to come up here, we could look at it...but I think you have a handle on it... I love the crap out of these rearend now...just like my old muscle cars, very predictable...
Well, another chapter in the on-going saga of my differential.
I got my diff back from Unitrax on Friday. I dropped it off at the shop and they called me today that it was ready. I went by on the way home from work, and took it for a test drive. It had rain about 10 minutes before, and the streets were slick. DAMN that back end just loves to come out!
So I went over to the nearby highway and took it up to speed to see if I was getting any gear whine or if I could detect any issues. At about 75mph I started getting a major vibration from the back. It got worse as I sped up. By 85mph it was severe enough that I could even feel it in the steering wheel (but it was definitely coming from the back).
So it went back to the shop. It might be my tires. They needed replaced before I did the Wavetrac, but I don't remember any major vibration. Hmmm...
Tomorrow after work, I'll take up my old stock rims with the old stock tires on them and we'll mount them up, just to see if it is the tires or not. I hope it's just tires. I can't imagine what it could be if it isn't, but I know that it will be expensive. Ugh.

A vibration IMO is not the wavetrac. It could be the driveshaft. I know how you feel, it was fine before and now something isn't right. Keep after it. And yes, the rear of the car feels real different. I'm still getting used to it, heck, that's part of the reason I had to paint my car.
