2004 V8 6-speed
Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
One of my plans is when I eventually get up and running, make it to the dragon and bring this along. So far I only know how to do the netherlands mod but I'll figure out how to do the speed limiter and premium fuel select by then. Not sure what else can be done but with some playing around I might be able to figure some stuff out.
Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
And I will search through Star and try to figure that out too. I'm also wondering what more there is. On the Mercedes equiped with SAM units it is literally insane how much stuff there is to play with and change. It's just hard to find out what can be done to the R170 because alot of people don't do it or just don't post about it.
Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
When I had my car hooked up to the chrysler version of this (English) and got to play around, there were many things I wanted to modify, and found them in the tool, such as spoiler extension speed, but they were not able to be changed. Not sure if it is because I was not in developer mode, but other things worked as planned. I do not know much about that side of it, but I would have thought this very expensive ($10,000+) Chrysler tool would have been able to...

problem is that you can't access the BCU and ABS/ESP module with MB Star DAS. This can only be accessed via Chrysler Star Scan. And Chrysler Star Scan isn't really available in the aftermarket due to online connection.

Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
Markus, this is why I used the Chrysler version because I was having error codes in my BAS/ESP module and needed to fingure it out. IF I had access to one of these, could I use it to aid in a V8 swap?

Thanks Bob, and I'm sure it does! Your new toy is going to be crazy! Can't wait to see something happen with it.
It may help but if you have an auto it's pointless because it won't access anything you actually need to access. If you have a stick, were looking at what needs to be done but the ESP and BCU aren't looking like they will matter much as far as this thing running. Save your money, get Star. You can't swap without it.
Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
All of the wiring is done. We decided since the exhaust manifolds arent in that maybe we shouldnt start it lol ... So we disconnected all of the coils and it cranked!!!! Just a reminder for any of those who just got really excited, don't go buy parts for the swap just yet. The V6 computer is still in, I just wanted to make sure that the car's wiring was all done correctly. Now I just need the last 3 parts and we will go from there on the R&D side of the swap.
Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
Thanks John! Yeah the easy part is done unfortunately. We will see though. We are going to take a look at an idea that we stumbled across. The guy in Germany who had Mercedes figure it out told us roughly what they did, and it makes a ton of sense. So we will take a look and see if it is possible (with our tools) or not. If it is possible, then it shouldnt take longer than a couple weeks (with the other 3 parts already together) to get it going. Fingers crossed!!!
Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
Plus I have had a ton of luck on this motor so far. This motor accepted my flywheel and clutch from my crossfire (ton of money saved)... and come to find out all of the wires on the harness are the exact same color and size as mine on the crossfires. Im glad I still researched the crap out of the diagrams for almost a week so now I can have a better understanding of how it all works, but if someone were to have that harness on there swap it would be a simple, this wire to this wire kind of thing.
Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
I was just thinking it needed the serial to OBD cord, but if it needs other things then hell yeah it's a moneypit waiting to happen lol.
Re: 2004 V8 6-speed
The V8 PCM is coming, airbox is coming, and I have a GQ-4X coming which is a chip reader/burner... Got in touch with Karim (Kanzus) who is over in Paris, he is going to guide me through some nifty little tricks with the reader/burner and the Immo. How to virginize (unlock) the ECU's and help me with my idea. The idea I feel I can actually say now that it's proven. Real simply we are going to swap the Immo, virginize it first but the Immo stores stuff like the VIN, key and immobilizer data so were going to swap it over to the V8's computer. That way everything in contact for the immobilizer to the ECU will be the same as before with the V6 computer in. Will this fix the clutch problem? Maybe, we will see. With at least the key working the backup plan for the clutch switch will be Beckmann Technologies. They will build a device that fakes the CAN signal that is coming from the "SAM" (which we dont have) to the PCM. This is why I was asking who has a C230 that is near Durham NC. They have a SAM module like the V8's and the PCM wants to see the signal come from that.
In any case, we should have some answers pretty soon. I am working at seperating the V6 ECU's circuit board from the case that they put a ton of epoxy between. Some people pry them apart with some heat but I am not liking that idea so much.
