ECU DATA Acquisition System
I have put together a ECU DATA acquisition and logging system for the Crossfire from third party products that will monitor / log / record the major engine parameters. There are 65 supported PID's with the basic system...
(1) You will need a PC running Windows with either a DB9 serial connector, USB connector, or Bluetooth connectivity.
(2) You will also need to purchase a ELMSCAN OBDII interface that has the connectivity to your computer (DB9, USB, BLUETOOTH). http://www.scantool.net/products/index.php?cPath=8_6
(3) You will also need to purchase the PCMSCAN software from PalmerPerformance. A demo version is available here: http://www.palmerperformance.com/
I am also awaiting delivery of the CARSOFT maintenance software which will interface with the ELMSCAN5... But, I am not yet sure that the Mercedes SLK320 software will be the same as the Crossfire... You can find the info for yourself here: http://www.carsoftsales.com/mb/index.htm
Enjoy the info... When I have more on the tuning software I will share it with the forum.

Just wanted to let you all know that the guys over at http://www.tunertools.com just set-up a new forum for us Crossfire / SLK320 / SLK32 owners... This site will give you access to some specialists in data logging, piggyback systems, wideband 02 sensors, ETC...
Hi Derek,
I just set up a new forum space specifically devoted to the Crossfire / SLK320 / SLK32
http://tunertools.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25
Enjoy :-)
Brian Palmer already has PCMSCAN set up to accept an additional analog signal from the AEM 30-4100 and the Innovate Motorsports LC-1 set up. In addition, I have a new AFR meter that includes live engine RPM (not through the OBD port) so RPMs don't have that lag that the OBD information does. See this link: http://tunertools.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SP-AF-5000
I believe Brian Palmer could easily incorporate this Sniper AFR meter into PCMSCAN although I'm not so certain about getting BOTH the afr and rpms coming in... since PCMSCAN is set up to get rpms from the OBD port, it might be tricky to place that switch in there for an alternative source of RPM data.
Cheers,
Lloyd

The ELMSCAN5 interface will access the OBD port to connect your computer to run the data log software... It will also allow you to integrate additional software that will allow you to manipulate the ECU and remap it's parameters or reflash your ECU... In other words, you could install your own PowerChip / SuperChip, etc...

I am running version 7 with a third party interface box. You can get access to most of the car's modules that sit on the CAN bus, it even picked up some codes in the ABS module which I had not been able to access before. You can also use it to reset the adaptation codes in the ECU. I used it after replacing the MAF as it ran like a dog having adapted to the original one. It will also recode the ECU to a specific car if you are swapping them out. There are some modules it won't talk to though and mine insists that I have a problem with the hydraulic roof when a run the full diagnostic report! I'll try and post up some pics when I get chance.
If you haven't done so already, take a look at my data from the track last weekend... I'm still trying to figure out the LTFT / STFT / TIMING retard...
I'm still catching up with things on the forum and will definitely be checking out your data and other exploits when I get time. Things are still manic at work (on a plane back to Hong Kong at the weekend) so I am finding it hard to get my head back in to Crossfire mode.
I have probably mentioned it before but there is a stack of open source (read FREE) logging and diagnostic code which works with the ELMSCAN. I find that you have to be very selective with the number and frequency of the PIDs you log with ELM in order to get sufficient resolution if you are trying to see one value change in response to another.

HDDP,
Excellent! I think I may have to purchase the software and start a bit of tuning myself.
Woody,
I have the Pro Scan ELM device from 'www.MyScanTool.com'. I've tried quite a few of the 'free' software packages... some work with the Crossfire, some don't (ProScan software does not and has not been updated since Sept 21,2006). ScanTool from www.scantool.net does work with our crossfire. I'll probably weed through some others before my next track day and see if I can get some good data too.

Have fun in Hong Kong and do me a favor while you're there... See if there is a bar in the WanChi (sp) district called Club San Francisco... It was there in 1980...
And the owner gave me her 18 yo daughter as a guide for the weekend I was there... Ah, old Navy days... LOL.

I'll send you a copy if you don't have it. Good to hear you are still getting out on the track. I will be back out on the 4th August, I will try and get some logging data too so we can all compare notes.
Out of interest have either of you managed access the fuel pressure PID, it would appear that it is not supported, at least through the various ELM327 'lash ups' I have built. I ended up driving around with a pressure gauge on a long pipe from the fuel rail poking through the window when I was trying to track down a misfire problem a while back.
X'ed: Hey, thanks for the welcome back, I've been out of the picture due to work commitments, see my post in the Main section a couple of days ago. Hopefully I can find time to drop in more often.
I am starting to think I need to purchase an OBD-II data logger for a couple of projects that I am planning.
I am looking for the most cost efficient offering - not the cheapest but the best bang for the buck.
I see HDDP and others are running the ELMs unit. I was considering Autoenguinity - http://www.autoenginuity.com/products.html
Any thoughts are recommendations?

Seems to be a good product, I considered it as well... Have not used it though and not sure if it supports all the Crossfire PID's or aftermarket lamda sensors...
