Re: SRT6 Engine Transplant
The new custom Bell Heat-Exchanger arrived today... Gerhard Schruf did a great job... Dimensions are 83mm D X 165mm H X 457mm L with 14 transverse cooling tubes that are 3mm X 165mm X 381mm... The inlet / outlet tubes of the heat-exchanger are 20mm OD / 13mm ID...
This matches almost perfectly with the new Johnson intercooler pump, which has 20mm OD / 15mm ID inlet / outlet tubes... And the OEM intercooler which has 16mm OD x 13mm ID inlet / outlet tubes...
Now I'm waiting on the Fin Tubing from Cain Industries and the completion of the cooing tank, then I can start on the plumbing...

Sorry guys, I'm starting to use this thread as my note pad...
(1) The new heat-exchanger has an appx volume of 1,100 ml...
(2) The OEM intercooler has an appx volume of 550 ml...

For the notepad, here's an LKQ eBay listing for an SRT-6 engine assembly with 3,000 miles for a starting bid of $2,400 but no bidders yet.

Re: SRT6 Engine Transplant
Because I'm too lazy to read the whole thread again I'll put it simply.
That price is just to freakin amazing. If I got the entire engine and uncut wiring harness with ECU would this be possible to put into my NA?
Will a competant Mercedes mechanic be able to do this? What cost do you think it would be for the swap?
What other parts would be needed.
Sorry HDDP, I really am sorry for even asking this. LOL

The mechanical aspect is less intimidating and is a bolt in swap. I don't believe you are looking at anythng that would be very challenging to overcome.
Re: SRT6 Engine Transplant
Alright, before I post what I was going to, I have to answer the post from MAYAMAN... The mechanics of the swap are relatively simple if you are taking the SRT6 engine and installing it into a Auto Trans or 6spd... You will have to change / add some parts for the IC / SC, but it's a bolt-on and you will need to upgrade your clutch, otherwise you'll be replacing it every 10,000 miles for a regular driving car... (IMHO)
As LantanaTX stated, and as he and I have discussed over the phone, the electronics are going to be the nightmare for a daily driver car and will cost you more time and money than what the engine costs... I would guess that you're going to pay $5,000 +++ to get the additional new sensors and electronics to work... IF you can find someone in your area that can do the job... Otherwise, my guess is that you will have to ship the car to the people that LantanaTX is digging-up... So, that would mean Florida for the Renntech work, and Colorado for the Kleeman work... Unless they have distributors / installers in your area...
That's all I have to say about this subject, because I think LantanaTX has done more research on how to achieve the electronics for a daily driver... I have it EASY, I'm a track car that doesn't need anything working except for the engine systems / gauges and brake lights, with the functionality of adjusting tuning parameters from my laptop while I'm at the track... Heck, that's about all that's in the car anyway...

Re: SRT6 Engine Transplant
Now, back to what I was going to post... I finally got the polishing done and I picked it up before work today... Those of you who know this engine will understand how I removed all the sand casting roughness and had it polished by MasterCraft Metal Polishing... Here are photos of some of the pieces I did...
Now that everything is done to the engine, I can start reassembling it...

Re: SRT6 Engine Transplant
WOW...I'm impressed...that looks great! It's almost a shame that it's going on a track only car.
I think you may have just spawned ideas in a bunch of people's heads that are going to want to do the same thing to their parts!
Just curious....roughly how long did it take to do, and about how much cash in consumable items and labor?

Re: SRT6 Engine Transplant
HDDP, The engine will look amazing! Maybe you should consider track/and some shows. I was going to polish my V8 valve covers and some of my hot rod firends told me that the valve covers are magnesium and will drive me crazy if I want to keep them shiny. they suggested Endura Shine powdercoating. I saw this on a small block chevy intake manifold and I counldn't tell if it was chrome or ploshed. to stay in budget, I will most likely be painting mine this weekend.
Re: SRT6 Engine Transplant
Thanks HDDP. The car is not a daily driver and is an automatic. I have a Grand Prix I use for daily chores and the Porsche and Crossfire for weekends. The mechanicals seem like the easy part obviously. Ugh, I know I would have to ship it and I have no problem with that as long as its a reputable place.
I'll pick Latana's brain and won't soil your thread any more.
