Let me clarify:

that 10-12 degrees is with an ambient of 90+.

I haven't made measurements at 50 F. I think there is a linear diversion as ambient temps rise.
I'm starting to think that engine cover is a heat magnet. Running the single 3" on drivers side and oem on passenger side worked way better than the duals I'm now running. "primary" air flow through the 3" side appears to have kept it cooler. After 40 minutes of Turnpike and 55 mph rural driving, I popped the hood at the gate. Temps were +30 over ambient temp of 40 degrees. The pipes were COLD to the touch. Guess it's jig saw time where the cover connects to the maf housing.. and new plumbing to bypass the stock filter housing and cover. Thinking I'm too determined to keep the stock cover under the hood!

A friend (a couple) here actually have my intake and modified the OEM airbox to fit with (in front of) it. It was just a hollow shell at that point, but kept the factory look. Kinda'.

I insulated the bottom of my air box to keep temp down. I also insulated the 2.75 in air tubes and the plastic air tubes on the side of the factory airbox. As long as your moving it keeps a big temp differential. keeps it a few degrees above ambient (10-15 degrees). A big improvement from 120-130degrees air temp.

Hmmm... guess this route would be better than chopping on my engine cover. Always something to "tinker" with huh.. LOL

So I guess the foil looking insulation stuff?

I too did this on my NW single CAI.
Before I was seeing 12-18 degree (F ) between IAT and ambient,
now I am seeing 5-9 degrees.

I used adhesive water heater foam/foil and silver metallized tape from Lowes, $20 total.
