Post 6 speed manual transmission

I have a 2004 Coupe with the 6 speed manual transmission. It is my daily driver.
Yesterday, the shift linkage went sloppy and I cannot engage reverse, first or second gears.
I would appreciate anyone with knowledge in this area giving me some pointers, I guess that I am going to have to drop the trans, but is it likely to be external - the shift mechanism, or internal - gear selectors?
No issues prior to this.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I ha e not had any problems.
but I do have my XFire up in the air with exhaust and driveshaft out atm.
will try and get a chance to crawl underneath and get some pics of the linkage rod and cable, and look around for external things to check.

I am doing a slight modification to the linkage plate.
need more room for the new single piece aluminum driveshaft and to push the seal tighter to the trans tunnel.
there is one rod going back and the cable.

Thanks, I've just crawled out from under mine. It would seem that the cable and part of the linkage has come adrift.
I'm going to pull the box anyway and do the clutch while I'm under there so I should be able to see more when the box is out.

Wish you had some pics where it came loose at.

Clutch and flywheel, those are expensive on our cars.
How many miles is on yours?
How long they last all depends on the driver.
I have a idea I want to check out that could be better for flywheels.

Still have to take out the prop shaft before I get the gearbox out fully. But the link has separated at the point shown by the red arrow. I haven't rushed as I can't get a replacement clutch until Tuesday.

That will be AU$700. May car has done just under 180,000 kms, around 111,000 miles in your money, so not young.

the #3 is what I have to modify for my aluminum driveshaft.
Where you pretty aggressive with it, for it to break there?
Isn't that spot inside the Transmission?

Can you do me a favor please.
Since you will have your new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel, can you weigh them for me please?
I have 161,xxx miles on mine, and still strong, better be lol
next, I want to find a aluminum flywheel setup when I change out mine.
TY

From dual mass to NO mass ?

It's gonna sound like a F1 engine

I did that once when building a 250 cc Yamaha short track bike, replaced the flywheel with a simple steel plate which I used for DIY electronic ignition.
HOLY WHEEL STANDS Batman !!!!!

I'm hoping not to need to change the flywheel, but I'll weigh the other stuff.

The link I put the pointer to is outside the box. It connects to a shaft going into the box.

sometimes I wonder why it has to be changed.
I have never messed with a dual mass flywheel, but everything I have seen it is reguired to change when changing the clutch.
Aluminum flywheel, will has a steel plate bolted on, and just have to change out the plate and gtg when changing clutches.
if only I could find upgrades to the nsg370 to raise the torque capacity from 272 to 400-450.
then there would probably be more v8's.

ooooooo, so if I put a aluminum flywheel on, I can pick the front tires up off the ground.
ooooooo

location, location...
i have a stiff shifting, particularly on 2nd gear. i heard that the problem could be that the cable has worn out.
#1 item in the diagram: https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/part...t_control.html
problem is, no longer available !
any link?

Hi Phil,
It is quite easy but many of the screws holding it in place are hidden. There are some in the console storage box under the felt base. To access the others you need to remove the fascia starting with the middle section, you have to remove the climate control ***** and radio for this. You need to do this anyway to remove the gear box. Removing the gear box will give you the best access

really, is not that i want to remove the console, just to see the parts and then lube them.
but dont know from where to reach them.
there is a video. see at 9:15. under there is something that looks like a carpet, but not the parts shown in the diagram. i dont see them there.

seems that the only way to reach them is from under.
by the way, i took it to rustproof, and even if other things improved (as happens when rustproofing), the problem remains.
seems that have to take it to the transmission guys and see.
