Raw fuel coming out of evap canister tube
Raw fuel coming out of evap canister tube
Has anyone had a problem with raw fuel coming out the evap canister on a 2005 crossfire? I recently replaced the fuel filter two weeks prior to this problem. I’ve looked everywhere really hadn’t seen anything negative with the fuel lines. The fuel filter that I bought was an aftermarket wondering if that might be my problem.
Re: Raw fuel coming out of evap canister tube
I do not know if fuel coming out of the canister is related to changing the fuel filter. The fuel filter on the xfire is also a fuel pressure regulator and check valve. Best to use OEM part A 002 477 30 01 filter. There is also a check valve in the fuel pump.
I would think fuel at the canister would cause a DTC, diagnostic trouble code; you should connect a scan tool and check. It should help narrow the possibilities as to where the problem originates.

Re: Raw fuel coming out of evap canister tube
It is not a fuel line between the filter and the canister. I believe it is breather that allows the diaphragm that regulates pressure in the filter to work and breath or oscillate properly. IF the line between the filter and canister is leaking or discharging gas then you should replace that filter you bought with a proper OEM filter. Buy it from Germany auto supply, PartsGeek or your friendly Mercedes dealer just ask for a fuel filter for a 2003 SLK 320. I gave you the part number in a previous post.

Thanks 180, good diagram which reminded me that one of the four ports on the fuel filter is an overflow discharge/recirculation back into the fuel tank. Hopefully Ronnie&tab has not mistakenly switched that line and has it connected to the canister in error.
Re: Raw fuel coming out of evap canister tube
I don't have a solution to your issue, but I do have a warning. If you have liquid gasoline in your evap canister, do not drive your car. Years ago this happened to V6 GM cars. For some reason the evap canister would fill with gas and then when the valve would open to purge the canister, it would suck that gas right into the engine and hydro lock it. Hydro locking an engine when cruising down the highway causes the engine to fly into many pieces. Saw it a number of times.

Re: Raw fuel coming out of evap canister tube
This has happened here before but the cause escapes me at the moment.
I shall continue searching.
EDIT
I have searched and I think it is a failure of the fuel filter pressure control valve or even the wrong filter being fitted. Gas gets past the pressure control diaphragm in the filter and gets through to the evap canister.

Re: Raw fuel coming out of evap canister tube
I think you are correct once again 180. The OP stated in post #1 "The fuel filter that I bought was an aftermarket wondering if that might be my problem."
I gave him the OEM recommendation in post #2 and hopefully that will help him get this straightened out AND he reads and heeds the advice of James!
