I'm getting mine re-done to 5%.. even if it is agaisnt the law! I hate people staring at me when i'm driving.
in toronto be careful they say can not obstruct view from seeing in so cops can id drivers.
i would do 35% up front and 20% in rear, there is no law for rear so you might be able to do 5 % but front max would be 20% on white it will stand out.
on my crossfire i have
20% front and rear and i put a 20% layer on the back window so i have like 4% and it is pretty dark takes care of hiding my system. i think i am gonna do the small quarter panel in the rear with another 20% layer. i have a brow up front as well that is 20%

Thinking about tinting for a while. Good read above. Some questions:
1 - did you also tint the small opera windows?
2 - any issues tinting the big rear window with the defroster?
3 - is the tinting material easily scratched when cleaning?
4 - how much should I expect to pay?

goldwing if you want pics i can put some up for you i need to take them.
my car is a 2008 limited coupe and the tint is as following
20% brow on the front winshield
20% on driver and pass windows
2 layers of 20% on the corner window
1 layer of 20% and 1 layer of 5%.
the reason i have 20% is the car i bought from texas brand new and the dealer like to tint all the cars with a 20% tint.
i needed something stronger in the back to hide my system and reduce sunlight within the cabin. i also want the tint strip at the top to block sunlight in my vision.
cost is hard to say some shops will do a tint all around for around $250-300 and some vary my local shop has a tint special for $150.
they charged me $30 to do the tint strip up front, and like $20 to do the corner window and $30 to do the rear window.
make sure tint is not metallic as that interferes with radar detector performance. Make sure to read local laws and see what the limits are.

you will be amazed how quick it can add up with locations, material of tint and expertise of the shop.
in all honesty tint material is only about 20-30 bucks of the cost it is the labor they make a killing on but yeah a fair price in my eyes is $200 and i make the shop do it at that rate many shops like to start around $300-$350.
i paid $175 for my girls 2000 mercury cougar with front windshield also

The guy who did mine is a professional that does it at a shop, and at his house. Doing it at his house lets him keep 100% of the profits instead of paying shop fees, etc etc etc. I took it to local shops and they wanted $150-220 to do it.
I can take pictures of mine if you request, can't really see anything inside, just pitch dark. I like it now a lot

That, and it's a priceless feeing winning a race, pulling up to the next light and watching the guys face when I roll the window down...does it hurt your ego even more when you're beaten by a girl?
I worked at a tint shop here in Indy for about 2.5 years and I can speak on Indiana lawa as well as a few other things I have read through. First of all, my personal car, as well as every other car I have owned, has been tinted in 20% high performance film (it is a black carbon film that WILL NOT fade under any circumstance) feel free to take a look in my gallery, since it is a black car it makes it look a little darker, but in my eyes it is perfect.
IN MOST STATES it is not the % of light that the film will let in, it is whether or not the officer can identify the driver and passenger in the car. This kind of sucks with our cars, since the windows are so small already 20% is significantly darker than on an SUV with a huge open windshield and large windows.
As far as being easy to take off, not a ******* chance. If you buy good film and it has a chance to adhere properly, the glue becomes a major pain in the a$$ to take off. The film will peel right off, but the glue will be the culprit.
Price: $150-$200 for a full tint with a lifetime guarantee.
Hope this helps, just my two cents.

You can't say all 5% is hard to see out of, There are many companies out there that make tint. The better companies have designed tint that is much easier to see out of and still 5% visibility looking into. I have been running 5% on every car I've owned and been pulled over many times. But I have never gotten a ticket for tint because I followed one rule, When pulled over roll down all your windows and turn on your interior lights. The clearer the officer can see you, the less he cares about dark windows.
If you roll into the inspection facility with the windows down, do you think they will even bother to put them up?
What about those static tint products, will they stay on with the window going up and down? If they would work and looked nice enough, you could always pass the inspection.

I'm going to go with 35% all around (except windshield) fairly soon. There is a shop about a mile from me that will do it for $200. PA law doesn't allow any more than 70% (which I think is the factory tint), but I've never known anyone with 35% to have any issues.
When I get pulled over I usually roll the windows down anyway and sit there with my information in hand, hands on the wheel. A friend of mine who is a Philly cop gave me that tip. He claimed it puts the officer at ease having the windows down and a clear view of your hands. I think a cop would have to be a special kind of a-hole to give a ticket for 35% tint to someone who is respectfully cooperating.
Any PA residents with tint (or any other States with such a ridiculous law) care to chime in?
A great site for finding your State's laws regarding tint is here: http://www.tintcenter.com/laws

Thanks for the website, that's some handy info.
The tip I got about windows down and interior lights on I got from my uncle who is a cop. So if two cops said it then it has to hold some merit. One thing i was told different from you was not to get any papers out until he ask, Because reaching around your car can look suspicious
