Fog light fix - loose caps
Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
I too have a cap off on the driver side and I started to fix that. Much to my surprise, the door in the fender well behind the fog light is gone. Has anyone else had that problem and does anyone know the part number of the part to fix that problem. Please advise.

Yup, just like many of you here, the driver's side fog light cap is off. I noticed this a couple of days ago. It doesn't look like anything is damaged (fog light still works), but cap may need to be snapped back into place.
I wasn't sure if I'd find a thread about this here on the forum, but low and behold...thanks all.

Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
I used a thin film of 75W-90 gear lube on the o-ring - went back together super easy (and I did this before finding this thread) it just would not go back together otherwise.
I also used a flat blade to pry the clamp on the adjustment arm off to get it apart.
Tooos I used:
6mm Hex Key (for the adjustment arm)
Flat Blade screwdriver
T25 Torx bit and 1/4" rachet
T25 Torx Screwdriver
And I took the wheel/tire right off the car - made it super easy.

Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
I was interested in these as well. I already have aftermarket 6K HID's........I suppose it wouldn't hurt to upgrade the fogs too. For $100.00 a pair they seem too good to be true - the factory foglight assemblies for our cars are $205.00 each! My only concern is that they'll look tacky. Not the light output but the assembly itself that is. Alot of aftermarket headlights from companies like Depo kind of look cheap and ricey and that's what i'm afraid of with the fogs from Blinglights. Their website doesn't show a picture of a Crossfire with the lights off so i'm not sure what the assembly looks like. If it looked purely OEM then it would be a no brainer to upgrade to them for a mere $100.00.
Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
I noticed my passenger cap on my 2004 fell off. I already epoxied the drivers back on last year.
Question...did the newer lights just not have the caps on or was the entire shroud around the bulb removed on the newer fog lights?
I was thinking of leaving the caps off on both if the light is not blinding to oncoming drivers but I will remove the shroud too if that is how the newer lights were produced. It does seem to throw more light even with the cap removed.
Thanks

Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
Also besides removing that cap a 9005 or 9006 bulb will will into the housing perfectly, just locate a car with the connector, I used one from a Chevy Silverado since I have one ,fog lights light up the side of the road and further than the headlights the lowbeams.
Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
Thanks. I just realized that I have a bunch of Toshiba 9011 HIR bulbs that would fit since it is a 9005/9006 socket. The 9011 HIR puts out 2300 lumens. Not as much as a 35W HID but not that far off and definitely brighter than the 9005 high beam bulbs. Now I have to rethink about whether to put in HIDs or just through in the 9011s.
Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
Yep, the cap on one of my fog lights came loose, was sitting at the bottom of the housing. I read some old forum posts about cutting the center tube that holds the cap so I proceeded to remove the fog lights and cut out the tubes. I busted one of the tabs to remove the inner colored housing from the black outer housing. I thought, dang I'll need a new fog light. Then I drilled a small hole into the black plastic housing and used a very small wire tie (I think they came with some decorative lights similar to Christmas lights) and was able to hook the tab the same pressure as with the the original tab because if the O ring in between. I read on the forum that if you remove the tube housing and caps, the spread of the fog light is wider. Be careful with the tabs, it does not take much to pull the inner housing away from the outer housing to cut the tubes that hold the caps. I eventually remounted both fog lamps, removed the front wheel to have better access. Now I have to find a dark road and see the difference. No more loose and falling fog light caps!
Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
I removed the entire assembly holding the cap and surrounding the bulb. If it is flexed back and forth it will simply come out as a single piece. I added HIDs since and I never get flashed by oncoming cars. My fogs definitely light up the road in front of me and to the side...very noticeable difference.
Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
Thanks for your reply. I found that by removing the caps, the spread of light from fog lights is broader/wider especially noticeable on country roads. I live in the city so it's really difficult to see any difference in the city. No one is flashing me. I have the original bulbs that came with the fog lights, they seem fine thus far. Appreciate your comments, thanks again.
Re: Fog light fix - loose caps
is risky. 04fire came up with the method.
