Morimoto HID Kit Install & Review Thread. Pics and Lots of Reading!
Re: Morimoto HID Kit Install & Review Thread. Pics and Lots of Reading!
I got the MorimotoH7 elite 3five kit last year as well, and it works like a charm. The light output is just epic compared to any halogens.
About the XB35 bulbs, I spoke with Matt from retrofitsource, and he informed me that the XB35 bulbs still have the shadow on the ground for the H7 kits. I think the reversed metal holder is only for the H11 ones? Anyone else care to ask them as well?

The support is opposite if the tab used for location. I think some years back someone on this forum modified the bulb so it could be rotated and the shadow went away.

It's the same voltage either way, and amperage shouldn't matter too much as you are supplying the ballast, not the actual bulb.

I just installed these on my car. The kit looks different than in the pictures I see here. It's pretty much plug and play, the only modification is cutting a 22mm hole into each of the rubber grommets covering the bulb housing to keep moisture out. They look nice but I now realize I have a spider web in my driver side housing!
Install time was about 15 minutes for the passenger side (I did not have to remove my coolant reservoir, just moved some tubing) and 25 minutes for the driver side (had to remove the smog pump and some electrical block). It took an additional 20 minutes on each side to mount the hardware securely/inconspicuously and 30 minutes to run to home depot for a flanged M6-1.0 nut to replace the one I lost.
One piece of info I couldn't find elsewhere is that the black morimoto wire goes to the top of the bulb connector, which is the side of the connector with two wires. I tried it backwards at first and it did not work. They make a humming sound when running. I'm impressed with this kit - it really looks and feels like quality equipment.

Ok hid set up revisited.
I installed hids way back when.
I have a mccouough kit. I have just had my 3rd ballast die.
Do I just bite the bullet and buy new expensive mccoulough ballasts or switch to a different kit all together?
Thanks for any input or suggestions where to buy and not over pay.

Be the first to try some of those new Morimoto LED's from The Retrofit Source and let us know what you think.
( I tried to be sneaky and talk TRS into sending me an evaluation set, but I rekon they are too durn smart for me, they respectefully declined. )

I just replaced one fog bulb and one high beam bulb.
I rechecked the ballast it's definitely bad.
I always forget what a pain it is to put bulbs in these headlamps. Hahaha
I might just see if I can find a reasonable price replacement ballast for now.

Get the Hyluxtek 2a88 ballast. Only ballast made specifically for HID bulbs. 3 yr warranty. Can-bus already installed in the ballast. Have had mine for 6 yrs without a single hiccup. Fires up quicker and burns the bulbs brighter. Can't go wrong. Here's a description about the Hyluxtek, part of the best kit on the market......

Thanks syfi. I orderd two. Looks like it will be plug and go with what I have so I won't even have to rewire anything.
I have a to do list for the crossfire, hopefully going to pick a day next week to get it all done.

I'm not sure what bulbs I have. They are the ones that came with my McCullough kit. When I first had ballast issues I bought another kit. I still am on the first set of bulbs and have 2 new bulbs from the second kit.
Maybe one day I'll use my leftover parts and just get one more ballast and do the high beams.
