DTRL's and the Illumination Module
I have been wondering if it is possible to change the US Illumination Control Module to a DTRL module by adding a solenoid inside it.
My Canadian ICM (with DTRL) clicked when the car was put in gear, I know Rudy would probably know the answer, but what does anyone else know? Rudy are you there?
The unit that holds the fuses can be unclipped and removed and that is the part that has the part number on it. I am assuming that the other part is common to both and that the fuse part carries the solenoid. At one time I had both types of ICM's in my hand and considered taking them apart. I chickened out (Cluck Cluck) as the NA was for sale and I did not want to risk ruining the switch and have to buy another.
If memory serves me well I think Rudy took a ICM apart (TonyGG's) in the parking lot at Woodward in 2010.
If it can be modified it may be of benefit to some on this forum who want to have or remove the DTRL feature.

The high beams do not work when you push the stalk forward but they still flash when you pull it back.
The low beams are full power, not half power which is usual for DTRL's on other cars here. Most DTRL systems do not have the rear or side lights coming on. Somehow the solenoid operates this system. You have to turn the switch to the normal position to get the high beams to power up with the stalk.
Traveling from daylight to night you can forget that the lights are in this mode and you only realize this when you want the highs on and they do not work.
With a US ICM in my SRT I would like to change it to DTRL's and not use the silly kit you can buy. I would like to know if it is possible. A change so that the lights are fully operational with the car ignition on or in gear would be good as well. You can hear and feel the switch 'click' when you put the car in gear after a second, not immediately.
I think that some US drivers would like DTRL's, it is safer we are told. It certainly prevents driving at dusk with no lights on the rear and sides, something many people do with just the fronts on DTRL's.
DTRL's operate with a slight difference between my US spec. SRT6 (with CDN light module) and my CDN spec. Limited. The DTRL headlights turn off with the tranny in neutral on the Limited but not the SRT6, wonder why?

I want to start on this mod if possible, I need to know if the switch comes apart easily. I started to take it apart and it hit a stop of some kind. I think one part slides out first if I recall.
Anyone done it?

I have not given up on this, but I have not been able to open the light module. I'd hate to break it.

When I brought my US Crossfire to the dealer here in Canada He was able to hook up his StarScan and enable DRL but with a caveat .
In the info box on the Starscan it said that US DRL unit had to be changed for a Canadian DRL unit for the change to take effect.
Don't recall the exact module numbers ,but only one digit was different.
Dealer would sell me Canadian DRL module for $700
I opted to go to Canadian tire for the 100 dollar fix instead ,but think that if time was not of any essence and you could find a Canadian DRL unit at the wreckers , my Canadian and American friends could have Canadian style DRLs

I wasn't charged when they could not make it happen , but I was standing right beside the Tech when he went through the menu with StarScan tool.
When he 'enabled' it ,it came up with the message that I mentioned in my previous post.
Not arguing that it cant be done by just changing the module ,but just wondering what else may change with the code ?
The only thing I noticed after he did that was that when you turned the ignition off, and got out of the vehicle , was that the fog lights, tail lights, corner marker lights and parking lights would come on for about 30 secs and then turn off.
I don't know if it always did that since I only had the car for a day and didn't notice before, or if it was the result of the coding.
Can anybody tell me if it is normal to have those lights come on after you turn off ignition
and exit the car ?

Both of my USA Roadsters have illuminated on turn-off like that.
I think DTRL should be MANDATORY in the USA, for the reasons Dave mentioned.

Both my Crossfires had the lights that come on as you mentioned, one was a Canadian spec car and the other a US spec car. It is a security measure so you have light while you enter your house etc.
