From the Owners Manual

11. Light Outage Indicator
With the key in the ignition switch turned to
the ON/RUN position, an indicator light
comes on. It should go out when the engine
is running. If the indicator light does not go
out after starting the engine, or if it comes on while
driving, it indicates a failure in the parking light,
taillight, stoplight, or low beam headlight.
The indicator light will come on when the exterior light
fails. If a brake light fails, the light outage indicator will
come on when applying the brake and stays on until the
engine is turned off.

This does not mention the two license plate lights, and the light works for these as well.

I'm betting it is a turn signal light which is the same as the brake lights in the rear. As soon as you touch the brake pedal or use the turn signal the lamp out comes on. Since you likely step on the brake pedal to start, the light is always on when you drive.

Turn on your headlight and your emergency flashers. Then walk around the car and check. Easy for one person to do.

$ amount please? 10 to 1 odds..

I have non canbus led's in the turn signals and no light out indication from them..

Now having non canbus led's in the back up lights.. you get a light out whether initialized or not.. go figure.

Oh... and brake lights are a totally different circuit than the turn signal..

I believe we can assume the car in question is stock lighting. If Gehoben traifed his vehicle with gadgetry then he is likely to suffer for it.

Those of you who corrupt your vehicle with weird crap are on your own. I would never mod my Crossfires

LOL... guess you don't realize they plug in just like an OEM bulb.. but without the low voltage resistance from a filament (just like a burned out bulb) you get a light out.

No Frankenstein wiring needed.

I know how they install. You missed my sarcasm and my point.
Neither of my crossies are stock, at least under the hood.

And I'd have to guess you missed mine as I'm fully aware you know how the led's fit in the socket..

OK I'm stumped. Bulb out indicator only comes on when I turn the light switch. I found that it will come on when I just turn on the parking lights. I've been around the car - 2 front baby lights, 4 side markers, 2 back lights AND license plate lights all on and working. Stock lighting. What am I missing? Is there something inside like an ashtray light that will trigger the indicator? I will have to wait til dark to see that. Thanks in advance for help.

Simply walking around and confirming that they are all working is not enough. You need to remove each and every bulb, clean if required and re-seat. Oxidation is usually the culprit..

From the Owners Manual page 103, 11. Light Outage Indicator: " With the key in the ignition switch turned to the ON/Run position, an indicator light comes on. It should go out when the engine is running. If the indicator light does not go out after starting the engine, or if it comes on while driving, it indicates a failure in the parking light, taillight, stoplight, or low beam headlight.

The indicator light will come on when the exterior light fails. If a brake light fails, the light outage indicator will come on when applying the brake and stays on until the engine is turned off."

I had to add a resistor to my LED backup lights to keep the dash indicator off.. Not just while in reverse... Might take a look at them.

Turn on your emegency flashers. Check them operating.

Also, you have two license plate lamps. be sure both work.
