I dont imagine they appreciated your attitude.... I like it though. Of course I also think those trucks with the dangly ball things hanging of the back are cool.

BTW.....there's a surprising number of law enforcement employees on this forum.......hope they are not reading any of this!
So tell me.. why would a law abiding Police occifer purchase a sports car?

My guess is that because they wear the badge they think they themselves are above the law....That or they are freaks like the rest of us!

I tried it twice when I was 16 on a Yamaha 175 enduro bike. The first time I cut through the city park and got a way clean. The second time, the cops and my dad were waiting for me when I pulled into the driveway. Thank God for small town cops 32 years ago. No tickets but but I was hoofing it for a month when my old man took my keys.

Would I try it again at 48? NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Internet White knight syndrome..............

Well, it depends on how you interpret this.... By hearing stories and the bad consequences of those who have tried it, it actually discourages the act.

Other than a quick duck out of sight before he gets turned around, i've never tried to outrun the cops....I have my share of speeding tickets to prove it.

The greater majority of people stop when they see the flashing lights...what you see on Tv is usually related to some criminal act. If it wasnt of interest to people why then are there TV shows about it? Because there is a little Jesse James or Billie the kid left in us.

I just wanted to hear the stories if any, and expose the flip side of a speeding ticket. For the record I never said I condone it.

A stupid post might be "How to outrun a cop" ....Chill!

If you think there is some danger resulting from this post, you have my full support to remove it.

I have to agree with CoupeGirl. I normally wouldn't waste my time but the Forum has hit a new low with this thread. You're risking lives and could crash your Crossfire. That's just too STUPID!

Don't poke the bear.

Jaded, I appreciate the PM. But, I'm not going to delete your thread because I believe you have the freedom to post whatever you want (within reason) on this forum. And I think that leaving this thread intact will have much more impact on your thoughts about posting here in the future...

Perhaps you cannot comprehend the different sub-sections of this forum, but please post subjects like this in the GENERAL section...

And also, in the future, think about what you are posting... This forum started with a wonderful group of people who were courtious and wanted to share infomation, but now it has become some sort of circus with people trying to sell products that are not what is claimed, and other members starting inane threads that have nothing to do with the vehicle...

I want to thank you for understanding that the GENERAL section is more appropriate for this type of post...

Andrew/JLR can we lock or move this thread? It's counter-productive and doesn't belong in the coupe forum anyway!

Jaded,
I am a police OFFICER. I also drive a Crosfire and have driven sports cars my whole life. It is very unfortunate that the crap your spewing is even posted and I feel I must reply.

1. Police do not enjoy high speed chases. I scares you ****less. It risks the lives of innocent people, the OFFICER and the suspect for no reason. The end of a chase always ends up in a review by your supervisors and often leads to civil action against the OFFICER. Who thinks this is something we look forward to or derive some type of enjoyment from? You have been watching to many episodes of TJ Hooker.

2. It is amazing that you do not know me or what I do and feel you have the right to disrepect me and the term police OFFICER. The police are out there every day, every hour, every minute to make sure there is some type of order maintained. I hope you have to call them for something you need and then look in the mirror and realize how arrogant and ignorant your statements are. You don't have to like me for the job I do, but I don't have to let your juvenile dribble persist on this forum.

3. I drive a sports car because I enjoy it. I am not above the law. When did buying a sports car make you above the law? I have found that most people who can purchase sports cars are the type of people who work hard and respect the law and other people. It is an exception in your case it seems. When have you seen a sports car owner run from the police in your vast experience as a COPS watcher. The sports cars are usually stolen not owned. I have been in a few chases and guess what? Not one sports car not even a sportier car.

4. It seems by the posts that the majority of the people see the stupidity in running from the police. I would hope that a thread popularizing illegal activity would not happen. Hey Jaded, maybe you can start your next thread with "Anybody sold crack cocaine in your crossfire.....".

5. White knight syndrome, hmmm thank God there is a little left.

6. Jaded. It's officer, ay.

This is an interesting thread... Funny how many different sorts of people we have here. Good that most of us are sane.

In my younger years, I outwitted the police a couple of times... see the lights, speed up a bit and take a quick turn into a neighborhood you know how to get through before they have a chance to get turned around and really see you.... That kind of thing. You know... where you could honestly claim that you didn't see them yet if they did find you, but have hope that they might not. But actually outrunning, no. I'd have to go with those who say that sort of thing is just a bad idea to even try. It's too dangerous and the consequences are too great. Makes for great movie scenes, but the reality of it is just not glamorous and potentially tragic for you or for some innocent family you might come across in your flight. Besides, if you're driving a Crossfire, they're very likely to find you even if they don't catch you right off. It's not like it's an anonymous car like a Malibu where there might be 50 of them in the same neighborhood.

I don't understand the whole mentality of running from the cops, unless you absolutly have too, for what ever reason that may be? Otherwise if you do make the cops chase you here in LA, your guaranteed atleast 2 years jail time at $30k-$50k per year your loosing $60-$100k in lost wages, court and lawyer fees $10,000 maybe more than $20k including tickets for runnin stop light and speeding, then your car sold at auction there goes $20,000, so grand total about $90-$130,000 loss. is it realy worth asking if it's worth it you Dumb F***K

I feel, and I think many members will agree, that it is below oneself and I believe below the car itself to run from the police. Think of it this way, I would have a lot more respect for the guy I see in his sports car (Corvette, Viper, etc.) waiting for the cop to give him his ticket than I would for the guy I see blow by me weaving through traffic at 160 trying to outrun the cops.

I've only had two instances to even consider doing such a thing. And in both cases the officers were very polite and more than fair. Why run?

Ditto. Never even considered running.

In fact, when I know I'm getting pulled over, the first thing I do is turn on my hazard lights.
The second thing I do is pull off of the main road, if it is busy. Side street, parking lot, anything to get us out of traffic.

This pulling off the road thing has gotten me questioned "Why didn't you pull over emmediatly?"
And I always answer "It is safer for us, officer." I go out of my way to make thier job easier.

As for this thread... I agree, it does make for interesting reading.
Tempers have unfortunatly flaired, but the info is pretty good/cool from a generalised perspective.
Lots of good opinions and stories.

I am happy you took the opportunity toshare your perspective with the group.
In many ways I agree with you.
I am not in favour of excessive speeds on public highways which may endanger others, albeit during a police chase or other.

In the quest for order I have seen police officers abuse their power. I have seen them disrespect the citizens they are paid to protect. I have seen them making left turns out of the wrong lane and speeding to the nearest Tim Hortons, or at shift change. One officer used his sirens to get his girlfriend back after having some lunch time nookie. An unarmed polish immigrant was recently tasered to death in the Vancouver airport. A man was stopped in a no stop zone to pick up his wife and an over zealous police officer with a grudge wanted to issue him a ticket. The man argued drove a short distance and stopped and was tasered while sitting in his own car. I have seen take downs with knees to the throat when the subject was totally compliant. My son, a good smart student, was stopped while walking home from school, and was subject to having his knapsack dumped out. He reports officers issuing tickets to patrons leaving a bar with a beer can in hand while they let an intoxicated girl, amidst the cat calls, enter a dangerous park. My son rescued her and made sure she had transportation home. I have seen off duty police officers who attended a dog club function drink all night then drive home.

There is a growing concern amongst law enforcement that they are losing the respect of the people.. Perhaps it’s time they judge their own conduct and respond accordingly.

I know there are good cops out there but there are also many with large egos and a tough guy mentality just looking for an opportunity to intimidate or manhandle someone. This profession attracts the domineering arrogant types as it gives them opportunity to control others.

I can appreciate that they have the potential to become frustrated with the court system, become jaded, and develop a bad attitude over time. I appreciate that a few bad apples isn’t cause to paint you all with the same brush. In the same way a few bad citizens should not prejudice your attitude. The difference being, police are paid by the citizens to uphold the law, and should set a good example.

As far as your sports car, I am very curoius to learn if you ever exceed the posted speed limit by 10 or more. And if you do, I am interested in learning if you hand out tickets to citizens that do the same. I am not talking about the idiot weaving in and out of traffic at excessive speeds; I'm talking about the driver who is on an open hwy or road who is driving as safely at 70-75 mph as he could be at 50 mph.

In my opinion, I think most t speeding tickets are not issued with public safety in mind. It's now become a lucrative form of tax collection, and you have become the collection agency.

You and some others appear to be lacking comprehension by fixating on the high speed chase and assuming I condone that. I have never tried to outrun a cop. I have ducked out of sight on a couple of occasions situation permitting. I have never recklessly endangered the lives of others by driving at excessive speeds in traffic. I have let a car go for brief periods on an open hwy reaching speeds of 120 mph. I have only done this while being the lone occupant of the vehicle. If you think that was being stupid then I’m guilty as charged.

I’d just ask that the police officers give consideration to the circumstances when issuing tickets, and live themselves to the same standards and laws that they judge others by.

Have a nice day sir!

It is certainly entertaining and interesting to learn the raw emotion this post generated.

It was enough to wake up a bear mid winter.

BTW: I'll hold a door for you or let you into traffic any day of the week.

There are better word choices than calling forum members stupid, or cheap *******. By your own sense of entitlement you have lost the ability to be courteous, the very thing you strive for. Think about it.

Jaded,
Thank you for you polite response, but the issues you raised do not match you initial assumptions:

You claim everyone misunderstood your question and believe you condone high speed chases. The title of your thread was "Who has outrun the cops?" not who has avoided, slipped away from, snuck off from, hide from. It was run from. I don't see how that can be misunderstood.
I am sorry you have negative feelings toward law enforcement officers, many do, but one of the things this job has taught me is not to judge anything until I have as many facts as possible. The situations you described are all plausible.
I can tell you as far as the issuance of any ticket or warrant I have done, I have done with a clean conscience. You sound as if cops created the laws we enforce and we just sit around thinking new ones up. Your lawmakers created the law and you are obliged to follow them. If you choose not to follow them that is on you, not me for enforcing the laws. The fact that people get tickets is not the fault of law enforcement. The ticket is for breaking a law passed by our lawmakers. If you don't like the ticket, your lawmakers have also created a court system for you to air your side of the story. People will always have "cop issues" try riding with one for a while before you judge.
As far as the speeding issue in my personal car, I feel I drive as safely as most and if I am issued a ticket I will take resposibility for my actions and not blame the cop who issued it.
Also I have no idea what you do for a living but I am sure there is a derogatory name for it. I wonder if you like it being used?
I am thankful we have a forum to air these issues and perhaps we can learn from each other.
