Pizza, you probably do need a girl friend, but not one- several. Then you wont get so involved.

Then it hit me, he had the mounting arms reversed - the LONG part of the arm goes in the kick drum - not into the Tom!

I had to figure it out on my own...

That's better. Spent 45 mins fixing all of this, then about 40 mins on my lesson.

I prefer having the cymbal to my right side. Or, get another larger one and put it on your right and keep the smaller one where you have it.
Do you know how to tune the drums?

Tune them? I thought so, but I can't get the snare to sound right. Wasn't gonnna worry about it right now.

If they didn't give you a drum key with the set, you need to buy one. They are inexpensive. The key will allow you to adjust the tension on the drum heads. Lightly tap your drum stick on the drum head close to each rod. At the beginner level, this is not all that important.

At the beginner level, this is not all that important on the toms. But most important on the snare if as you say it isn't sounding right to you.
Yea, I have the key. Damn, no idea the snare drum was so LOUD!
I THINK I am progressing... going to hire the guy at the local music store for about 3 lessons to make sure I'm holding my sticks right and have him just kind of guide me a bit here.
You know, make sure I get off on the right foot!

Thanks!

Yuup, got the 'phones and am using my instruction book from the music store and found some tutorials on Youtube that help.
It also helps to scrutinize the accomplished drummers out there .... but unfortunately, most times, the cameras at concerts ignore the drummer.
WHY is that?

Yeah go ahead and open up this can of worms..... you think you had problems with ONE.... try several, LOL, you will never see such a mess in your life and if you value your vehicle I would not recommend dating several women at once!!! Now if you can do that and them not know about maybe, but it's a small world and women talk.. is all I'm saying.....
OK... now crank up some music and play along. You'll get bored just doing the lessons.
I've been playing since I was 6 (42 years). My drum rig is now a beast of a rack full of acoustic drums & electronics.
