Best oil???
K, you mechanics out there!!!, AMSOIL European 5W-40 or MOBIL 1 0W-40. Also any stickys out there on storing my ( new to me) 2004 in a non- heated Wisconsin winter shed??? You guys are great help!!! Thanks again in advance!!! Did my cab filter today cuz of stickys on here! Great info and boy did it need it!! Only 15mins used a good carbon replacement filter $35!!! This thing is more expensive then maintaining my HD!!! Sure LOVE her though!!!
Here we go again. For the millionth time, if you want an opinion on motor oils, all of us have different ones but MOST here will tell you to get Mobile 1 0W40 and be done with it.
But if you want to know what the engineers who designed your engine think, then click here:

The first post gives you links to CURRENT lists of approved oils. AMSOIL is not on either list.
HEY MODS: Can't we post a sticky with GraphiteGhost's links in it? (Maybe we already do somewhere and I'm as out of touch as Marty McFly in 1888.)

Well, I'm just asking!!! Like I said "mechanics" not regular joes...like ( ALL OF US) It seems some people like to try and help... And some can't help without acting like they know it all and questions bug them!!! Yeah..... Here we go again!!! ;( one question?!!! Who (told) you??? Or do you just ( know it all)??? Can't we just be nice in here??? Like to newbies like me that DON'T know everything.
My mechanic claims MOBIL 1 is not as good as others like AMSOIL as to why I'm even asking... He said he's seen the inside of (MOBIL 1 engines) and it's not all that good. He's the one that told me AMSOIL and that it IS APPROVED for XF engines... I'd just like other mechanics input... PLEASE?! thank you very much!
I"m not upset with YOU lane, I just think we need a "common questions" thread, forum or SOMETHING. SOME questions LITERALLY come up every day around here and then it's us regulars who have to go search the forum for the newbies who won't do it themselves.
Your mechanic has an opinion, like I said, we all do. The vast majority of us here use Mobile 1 0W40. But many here like "that purple crap" - which is also NOT APPROVED by MB. But if your car is out of warranty, do you really care what is approved by MB?
Again, search the forum and look around, you will find a LOT of opinions. Or, just go to the list I gave you - but again, no matter what your mechanic says, AMSOIL is not on the current list. Your mechanic's suggestion that it is, is not supported by MB themselves.

1. trickle charger to maintain the battery
2. tennis ***** in the exhaust tips to keep critters out.
3. for spiders and such, sprinkle some moth ***** around, and put some in trays so they don't immediately melt.
4. jack it up on all 4 corners ( if you can ) to prevent flat spot tires.
5. cover it with something ( not a tarp ! )
6. start it up about once every week or 2 and let it reach full temperature for 5-10 minutes.
7. sit in it daily and make roooba-roooba sounds and dream of summer.

I have owned four Crossfires and all have used Mobil 1 0w-40 in all of them. None of them gave me any grief... But as Mark posted, any of the engineer-approved oils will work.
