Persistent Squeak From Left Side of Dash?
Hi all my Crossfire has a squeaky dashboard. Every time the car hits a bump - squeak! Very annoying on uneven roads. It seems to be coming from the left side of the dash (passenger side here in Australia).
Has anyone else encountered this and knows how to hunt it down and fix it? I'd love to know where to start looking and what the fix is!
Many thanks!

You might want to try driving on a bumpy road with a passenger in the car. As you go along the road have the passenger push on different areas of the dashboard or where ever they think the squeak is coming from.
Then if the squeak stops, you have located the trouble, unless it's inside the dashboard. Once you find it you might be able to tighten it or stuff some foam insulation behind the squeaky part to silence it.

Have taken a look and it seems the section of the dash holding the passenger air vent by the door is a bit loose. I can move it just so and replicate the squeak. Cannot see exactly where its coming from but somewhere in behind it. Is it easy to remove that part and re-attach more tightly?

It probably isn't hard to do. You can download the 2005 service manual here: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ollection.html
You can take the door on the PS side panel off & then are able to see if the HVAC vent fits loosely in the duct work. The HVAC vent will just pop out of its dash mount; sometimes removing the side panel door helps gaining access to pop the HVAC outlet loose from the dash & slide it out. Be careful removing the HVAC vent; the small locking tabs (2 on top & 1 on bottom) will break off after the plastic has aged over the years. Combine that with foam insulation that's deteriorated, and the HVAC vent is not longer being held securely in the dash & ductwork. The 2 locking tabs on my DS HVAC outlet have broken off, but the foam insulation is still in good shape. So the HVAC outlet seems to stay somewhat secured in its dash mount.

Hey all,
I am pleased to report success in fixing this persistent squeak! As other have said, the source was indeed the air vent rattling. It was easy to remove the vent, replace the deteriorated foam surround with self adhesive weather stripping and re-install.
The squeak is gone! Happy days!

Congratulations on finding the solution to your issue. Thanks for reporting back with the resolution. It might help someone in the future.

Honestly, I'd rather chase an electrical problem than a squeak. My Ford Ranger developed a noise in the cabin. The ONLY way I could get rid of it was by removing a piece of plastic behind the passenger kickpanel near the fuse box. The noise was coming from way behind it, by removing the part, it apparently allowed something behind it to loosen up enough that two *somethings* stopped rubbing one another.
You can almost be SURE this will come up again.
