Hi, my name is Sara and I recently purchased a 2005 Roadster limited with manual transmission and lots of problems. So far we have 3200 in repairs and it is still at the dealership. New key can't lock or unlock doors. New tires still vibrate vigorously at 55 mph among other issues. Very frustrating. Any suggestiins or ideas would be most welcome. Dealer clueless. In fact, I directed him to this forum hoping he could find some answers. Thanks in advance. Sara in Florida

The tire problem sounds like either the people mounting the tires are fools - or it isnt tires at all, but something else.

The key/lock issue is hard to say - any dealer should be able to sell you a compatible key (or put a new battery in the one you have - remember, that function of the key is battery operated). It can be the central locking pump as well, but problems with those are kinda rare.

The car is a Mercedes, so taking it to Chrysler is usually a pretty bad move. Most MB dealers won't like working on it, either. I use one of two local independent shops that specialize in Mercedes products for anything I cant do on my own. You did not indicate where you are and that makes it hard for us to suggest where to go. For example, here in the Atlanta area, Buckhead Imports is the service facility of choice for most of us - even those of us as far away as Nashville!

The new key has to be matched to the car for the locks to be in synch with the key. There is a short procedure here to do that.
The Owners Manual says to do it slightly different though;
Aim the fob/transmitter eye (that is the red window on the end of the fob by the key) at the vehicle and briefly press the lock or unlock button twice. Within 30 seconds insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the ON/RUN position. That should make it work.

Thank you sir.. "subscribed"..

Just a thought as our cars get older.. I know needswings keys come ready to go 100%.
When you get a key and do the sync. -programming to the car.. is this basically registering a new code-ID?

I know with other vehicles there is a limit to the fobs that can be programmed in... so if you were now on a 3rd or 4th replacement key...? I would guess this a non issue with a competent dealer and DRBIII programming..

The car is still at the dealership, I purchased the key through the crysler dealer, it works in door locks ang ignition but not the remote function even though they programmed it. They replaced the relay module among other modules. Now, the lock botton in the car is not working. In fact this has been a very costly affair so far.but hanging in there because I really love the car. And i intend to endure till it is running properly. For a car with 44,000 miles it really had a lot wrong with it. We had the roof replaced and it looks gorgeous but thereis still the issue of a broken cable on driver side, dealer said part not available. Any advise will be greatly apreciated.
I did mentioned that I was in Florida on my post but did no specified city. (Port St. Lucie)

Do the interior lights and the trunk light work ?
Might seem unrelated, but if F9 is blown, then that also feeds power to the locking module and the fob's remote functions will not work.

I work for one of the top electronic manufacturers in the world (Kenwood) and we have a hard time finding people who can troubleshoot electronics - not surprised a Chrysler dealership can't get to the bottom of this.

I'd bet if you could get a Mercedes shop to look at it, they would figure it out. The whole damn engine/drive train/chassis is an SLK320.

Guess the first question I'd ask is "Are those the stock wheels ?" - factory wheels register on the hub. Aftermarket wheels are often one-size-fits-all and rely on the lugs to center the wheels. Some luck out but this often leads to vibration so is a pertinent question.

If factory, I'd try pulling all four and cleaning the hub and wheel mounting surfaces thoroughly, some times there is grit or debris between the hub and tire that is not good. Also spin each wheel to see if it is straight. This sounds like a physical problem.

If in Orlando I could take a look at it, am just a hobbyist (cars relieve the stress of my day job) but have been working with computer cars since the 80's.
