My husband bought a 2005 Roadster last year. It is now my car really because it’s a bit small for my husband.
About two week ago, I was leaving the movie theater parking lot, driving at about 20mph, when the car suddenly didn’t sound right and quite a few lights on the dashboard were lit up. In the rear view mirror I noticed the spoiler was deployed. Immediately, I pulled over and shut the engine. Tried the restart it right away, but it was like the battery was dead, except that it wasn’t because the air con was blowing air and the button for the spoiler was flashing. The gear shift was stuck in park and the spoiler button was not responding, no matter how I pushed it. After sitting by the curb side for about ten minutes, I tried igniting the engine again. This time, the car started, the spoiler light was off, so I was able to make it go down by pushing the button and I drove home without any more problem.
The next time I drove the car was a week later. About five minutes into the journey, when I was turning down a side street at, again, about 20mph, the same thing happened again! The car didn’t sound quite right, then the spoiler was up, simultaneously various lights came on on the dashboard, the spoiler button light flashing, and the engine wouldn’t start after it was shut down. This time, when I called the friend with whom I was on my way to meet and told him about the problem, he suggested disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. It did the trick. The spoiler button was off when the car started, I pushed it and got the spoiler down, and I drove home without any problem.
Spooked by the recent two experiences, I am unwilling to drive the car now, in fear of the spoiler spoiling my drive again, I am asking for some help/tips before I take it to a mechanic or the dealer.
Hi There:
If I was you I would Change the Battery these cars do really weird things when the battery is weak or defective. The electronics got bonkers !! And I've had 4 Crossfires 2 SRT's.
Thanks, Ken
The spoiler is merely an indicator of a low voltage problem, either the battery, alternator or high resistance in a connection somewhere.
Check your battery cables, clean battery terminals, check the negative connection to the body on the fender well.
Also buy one of those cheap voltage readouts that go in the lighter socket so you can instantly what the voltage is IF it happens again.
