WD-40 for throttle body
..I just sprayed some WD-40 in my 05 roadster throttle body. For a couple of weeks now when I get on the gas from a stand still it would lag. Almost like a vapor lock for something. It would lung foward for a brief moment...maybe buck twice.. then down the road it would go.
I don't have this problem at road speed only from a dead ( or near dead stop). I got concerned and several things came to mind. My fuel injectors clean ? Some "chip" going out somewhere? I reset the throttle pedal ( drive by wire as explained in the forums ) but that didn't seem to help any.
A guy at work told me that what he had to do in the past was to spray some WD-40 down in the throttle body for a few seconds. This seemed to clear his issue he was having that from what he understood sounded allot like what I was undergoing.
Anyone else heard this before? WD-40 in the throttle body ? Did it work ?
Thanks in advance...............

Did you spray WD-40 directly into the throttle-body (did you remove everything connected to it)? If not, you couls be gunking up the MAF. There is proper t-body cleaning spray out there - I suggest that instead of WD-40. You could try injector cleaner and/or fuel system cleaner. Dirty air filter? Cr@ppy gas?
I have used WD-40 many times as a starting fluid, the aerosol can type that is....
On my old Triumph TR-3 with side draft carbs....
Always have a can ready if Im going to help some one whos stranded or needs car help.
I heard It has Naptha in it (Naphalm Bomb) works great on old engines and helps in first crank but I dont know if its good for sensors on newer cars?
I installed a oil bath type filter (like K@N) on mine once, and I put too much oil on the new filter I think? Well it did the same stuff yours is doing for a day or so till all the oil was gone then no problems....
MAF? dirty? I agree with Spensley.

Actually guys... Spensley and Harleyracefan. Believe it or not....it worked !! I had the car running and sprayed ...what I would say...was three pretty healthy mist sprays direct in the throttle body. I admit there for a few take offs...it bucked just a little bit. But since not a repeat preformance.
I do have K&N air filters that I just did replenish with new cleaning and re-oil. But believe this "bucking" problem was pretty much before the air filter cleaning. The studder may have been the reason I cleaned them actually........
I had my doubts about it working myself. But my Xfire is a daily driver I drive 42 miles one way and admit most of the drive is divided hiway miles. I couldn't relish myself in my wife's 2008 Seabring hard top convert.....LOL. So far though it seems to help. I'd be a bit fearful about doing this too much. Like Spensley states there are other T-Body cleaners ( I don't think I've ever looked for any so I would have no idea....brand name wise what to look for). I'll be a bit more savy next time in the auto parts store ..and be sure to check.
Oh, I did put some LUCUS injector cleaner in the gas tank, I don't know if that helped any...but sure couldn't hurt !!!
Appreciate the input fella's................

Guys DON'T use wd40 in your throttle bodys!!!
Chrysler makes a throttle body cleaner, that cleans the carbon from it and everything inside it. It also won't leave a residue like wd40.

...OH I hear ya there ! I just had my doubts that the "bucking" I was feeling was even FROM the throttle body. My mind was everywhere else BUT. When a friend suggest trying the WD-40 I was a bit fearful. After all, this was suggested to be used on my BABY !! So, posted here to see if anyone else had tried. Me, being me....couldn't wait...went out and tried it anyways the car was to be driven into work that night and if it was going to work...now was the time to see.
I'm a bit more educated now (thanks to fellow postings). Next time I'll get the proper throttle body cleaners and what have you. But it's always nice to know it will work in a pinch !!
I haven't checked with Chrysler yet, but if you spray any product with silicone around a GM vehicle you can kill your oxygen sensor. WD-40 has silicone. Then you've got computer problems. You're better off using a carb cleaner for throttle bodies. Other than that, WD is great for a lot of things!!
Just wanted to clarify that Ive never used it on a vehicle that had a computer or sensors.
Mostly on old cars that have been setting up or old motorcycles and mowers and boats. mainly as a starting fluid. To help give things a little boost on start up....

If you read my statement I clearly said Aerosol spray type.
And it is very flammable!!!
Mabe you are thinking of the type that comes in the industrial size barrel or 5 gal. can.
If you look on an aerosol can it sez FLAMMABLE!!!!!
I also never suggested that anyone spray it into or on a modern day computer controlled carb. or Throttle Body....
But I did suggest that he may have some type of oil on his sensors as this seems to have been what caused my similar stalling issue.
after I installed a Spectre filter like the K@N type.
I never suggested he spray WD-40 into his X-Fire.
